Here's the copper I have for making the bottom 48" X 10" X 1/4"
I'll cut and tig weld the two pieces together
Then anneal and start pounding

Cut two 20" long pieces off and will weld them together
Then I'll make a circle out of the square.
My plasma cutter couldn't do the job, so I had to resort to the saber saw

Almost tempted to leave the bottom square and build a wagon bed style of boiler
That would be the easiest and most efficient way
But not nearly as sexy as this builds gonna be

Figure, I might as well document the build, in case some miss-guided sole want's to copy my bad habits.
Honestly, there's no logical reason for me to make another still.
Don't know for sure what I'm doing or how long it will take.
It all depends, on what's in my scrap pile and how sober I can stay

I'm definitely watching this. I've been toying with the thought of playing with some sheet copper and rivets

I'll be going to town to get parts to build a propane torch
I can't afford the oxygen and acetylene needed to repeatedly heat a 35 pound chunk of copper

Can't wait to see what you've got planned!!

Hells of fire, Nobody ever told me how much heat it takes to weld 1/4 copper
I've been preheating with a bango burner, oxy/ace torch and at 165 amps I still can't make a puddle

Don't have the equipment to weld on copper that thick and big
Sure did look like a good idea while drinking
But I've started now, time to spend some money on thinner copper or bigger equipment

Bigger equipment means more versatility...

Damit man, I'm too cheap to spend money on thinner copper or more equipment
But I do own a BFH Big F#@king Hammer

i'm at a loss for words . I've made and sold BFHs and regret that now . Hope you continue this quest and share with us . A BFH is not hard to make if you consider it beneficial to our hobby .

Decided to start with a 1/4" X 10" X 8" piece of scrap
After hours of pounding, annealing and first aid
The piece is now 11" X 9"
Another decade or two and I'll have a beautiful copper pot

can ya hire an oxy set? Oxy LPG is pretty cost affective and plenty of heat for what you want.

I have an oxy set, propane, forge and a big damn camp fire for heating
And used several of them, while attempting to tig weld the thick copper
When that failed, I resorted to annealing the copper and beating the hell out of it with a big f hammer.
I'm sure copper is malleable, the question is "how many times can an old fat man, smack the copper with a hammer"

You need to talk to this crippled old man about building a 100# variable speed forging hammer that will run from 0 to 1200 rpm with a foot controlled belt drive .
All made from salvage yard materials and sweat .
The one I made had interchangeable dies as well . Weighed about 1000# and would walk if not secured .

I've decided the only way to make the copper pot from the scrap I have is to first finish anther project I've been wanting to do.

I've got the parts needed to build a 35# pneumatic air hammer, with an air compressor to supply power.
For the anvil weight I plan on using a pair of 6 cylinder heads bolted face to face and stand them on end. I'll bolt a thick piece of steel on top of the heads to hold removable bottom dies.

All I'm waiting for now is cooler weather.

Speaking my language. I've got a hair-brained plan for a 30 gallon copper pot-still, but need to get the plasma CNC up and running before, so I can cut out the flat-lay shapes with ease.

I'd say I'm more of a Project man with a Distilling problem, but would like to reach the tipping point of becoming a Distilling man with a Project problem.
