Can I store mash in Boiler until ready to distill?

In our view 30 gallons and under is considered hobby size. Do not bring anything larger than this to our site.

Can I store mash in Boiler until ready to distill?

Post by Tabucowboy »

I have a 15.5 gal keg and was wondering if I could put my Rum Mash in it for a few days WITH LID until I distill it? would like to free up the fermenters to start another batch of rum.

Or is that not a good idea?

Thanks

It should be ok to do so.....especially if its kept air tight.
A Rum wash isnt a Mash.... no grain is mashed.

Beware if the wash is not properly filtered, solid will land on the element or bottom and scorch your run. Rum doesn't have solids, but yeast can do the same. Been there.

I would stir it well before you begin heating it up.

Really well.

Also keep in mind if you really seal it tight and it isn't quite done fermenting, will pressurize. For a few days, I don't see the need to seal it. Anything funky that will grow in it will probably taste good.

Ended up only have to store one night in keg. Had both carboys filled up with 35% sugar shine. So cooked it to 80% to give space to put rum. Lol. Weird trying to get a stock pile so I can age it and have stuff to sip on. Will run the sugar shine one more time in my reflux once my electric boiler gets here and I can clean it.

Thanks for the advice now I have the space to continue my rum fermenting.
