Still design question

Post by WallyGator »

I've been reading as much as I can on the parent site, and had a question about one of the examples listed. In Mike Pemberton's Vapour Management Still, the description shows using a 1000 mm aluminum tube with ss scrubbers. Was I wrong in assuming that the only acceptable construction materials were supposed to be ss or copper, or a combo of both? Thanks in advance!

Hi. All the advice I have read and received says Only SS or Copper. The negative comments I have seen regarding Aluminum had to do with deteriation and lack of integrity of the Aluminum, and not some leaching of elements concern.
I'm no expert, just sharing what I have read.

Thank you Otis, Structural safety over time is important to me as well. Glad to hear its not an issue of something nasty leaching into the steam/reflux though.

Good catch. You are correct.
The parent site has outdated entries and is currently going through an IT correction phase to get errors like that straightened out.
