Barney Barnwell, the passing of another Moonshine Icon

Post by Hillbilly Rebel »

on March 29, 2011, Barney Barnwell of New Prospect, SC passed away. http://www.goupstate.com/article/201104 ... /110409949" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. Barney was a moonshiner and musician that successfully promoted his dual interests into a successful entertainment business on his 50 acre farm in the Dark Corners section of South Carolina a few miles north of Spartensburg, SC. His two annual shows, Plum Hollow and Moonshiners reunion, attracted people from much of the country, (including several from this site), as well as international visitors. He has made several movies and films, usually playing himself or of being a moonshiner. Type in a search under you tube, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q53FVt7H9aA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow), or go to his website of http://www.moonshiners.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. My condolences to his widow, Debbie. Barney will definitely be missed. He was a great ambassador of the moonshining fraternity, mixing his unique style of bluegrass and a friendly personalty to win over all that met him.

RIP Barney....

The varied mix of personal backgrounds and personalities is part of what adds historic realism to our hobby... And, unfortunately, the loss of those adding that realism is inevitable... I'm sure Barney would have been an interesting character to have known personally...
