lost another good one

Post by goose eye »

One of the last that cooked for Percy. He was a flat land cooker
But ole boys never held it against him. He'd have Percy's
outfit set up on one side of the road an he'd have his on the other.
Back in them days didn't have to worry about the law in percys county.
He used to haul before cooking. His pa passed away young an
his grand pa took on the jib. He use to drive a school bus. When he was goin to school
An he'd carry a case an slide it under his seat an have stops he'd make.

So I'm tole

He would go from still to still an haul it back to be shipping.
They had a 62ford truck with a ss gas tank in it. You would
put gas in the truck from a tank in the bed. That one never was caught.
They used that tank on 2 or 3 trucks. They was big on hi jackers Putin bolts in
the springs. He wont no saint but you walk into a fight
You didn't have to worry bout him turning tail an runnin.
He started in a 8x10 shake an never ask nothin from no one.
One Sunday morning long after Percy days his wife was standing in the kitchen an the law came tearing down the path to the chickethouse. She made a call to another woman an saidthe day has come. You know what you need to do. - yall remember that-

Sounds like a man of great character and strong spirit. Some people have a way of making you feel like the whole world has changed just a little bit when they pass, seems this was one of those men. You were fortunate to know him, and I expect he benefited from knowing you as well. Thank you for sharing a bit about him, goose eye.
