Free book giving insight into traditional distilling methods

Post by Irish_Shine »

Hey guys, in my research on traditional Irish poitin making I stumbled across this book by Samuel Morewood written in 1834. It is a fascinating wealth of information on all forms of distillation on every continent. Page 671 onwards details the production of Poitin that I thought you would appreciate. (Not a mention of potatoes or leprechaun tears to be seen ;) ) Anyway, just thought I would share the link for you to browse while waiting for your ferments to finish out!

Sam

A Philosophical and Statistical History of the Inventions and Customes of Ancient and Modern Nations in the Manufacture and Use of Inebriating Liquors, Samuel Morewood.

Hey thanks. That looks like fun.
And you can't beat the price.

UPDATE: You're right. Good read while waiting for heat up.

Glad to share! Have to admit it is a great resource...Takes a while to get used to the 1834 English but it's worth the effort!

Great read. Pity these native business was lost. Believe it or not it was de Valera who put the final nail in the coffin. Glad to see it is making a sweeping come back these days.
