S3:18 - Suburbia Edition

Post by panikry83 »

I've been okay'd by the wife to play host for next years meet up. I know it's quite awhile away but I'd like to get the ball started rolling so I have an idea of whats involved. I'm pretty excited - I've been wanting to host one of these meet ups since I went to Jedfest. So. let's get started folks...

Count me and SOH in as well . Having done many similar sized gatherings over the years we are kind of used to all the background planning and logistics that go into hosting a 20 to 50 person 2-3 day weekend gathering .
Having the preplanning in place makes the actual event a breeze . Starting this planning this far in advance is the best place to start .

If'n it be a potluck shiner dinner, I may have to throw a second dish on the table.

I'm in SE Pennsylvania - you can PM me for the specific address

I'm thinking a potluck style dinner - I'll take care of breakfasts and snacks and whatnot. I've got two grills and the stove to use for burgers, dogs, sausages and, whatever else, a decent backyard that can hold a few tents and, because my wife and kids won't be here, 3 available bedrooms and two couches for sleeping plus floor space for air mattresses.

I'd like to plan for maybe early September but, I'll leave that up to the majority of those who plan on coming.

That's all very general and ballpark but, I think it's a good start.

I suppose I could find the will to roll out of bed that morning and walk down to your house.

I'll be there

I'm only 2.5 hours southeast of Alexandria and could bring a few things, big ole pot of sausage and chicken gumbo, ship sauce, Butter rum, a snort of 18 month peach brandy for the host and some others for the gathering.
I'm definitely down if the invite is open.

Hoping to make it.....too early to tell, we need a more central place instead of extreme west coast or extreme east coast.

So, SCD and I are still planning on hosting this years get together at my place. Location disclosed upon request. I know it's a ways away but, lets start trying to figure out some dates. Labor Day weekend obviously won't work and the following two weekends we'll have plans with family.

I'm thinking the weekend of September 22nd-23rd. I'll be taking off the Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday.

Anyone have any other suggestions or dates they'd prefer?

I'm not opposed to mid-summer dates, just thinking about other peoples vacation times and what not.

Let's keep this up-to-date.

Man, I've been wondering if this was going to pop up again. I can usually make something happen in August & September.

That's the thing that enables a good turnout . Overthinking on the getgo helps everyone to make plans to insure a good turnout .

Sounds like we've got dates then? The weekend of 9/23? I'll let this here for you all to chew on for a few days. If that works, I'll move on to the next stage in planning. Looking forward to hanging out with all of you again, even if it's 8 months away, lol.

Allentown. (ABE). About 15 minutes away. Free shuttle service from ShineonCrazyDiamond and Panickry.

This will be fun. My house is a few miles down the road, but panickry was able to clear out his place for the weekend :) . Still, if there are spouses and children that would rather do other things ( although, we love them both at the primary venue), there's plenty of room at my place, too. My family will stop by for lunch/dinner I'm sure, but majority of the time I think they will have fun around the house/town that weekend. She's always glad to host a more low key get togethrt if there is a calling for it. Or just plain over flow :).

Anyways, can't wait! Don't think I could miss it, even if I wanted to!

I'm stripping off my first mash of the year right now. It should be just coming around come September. I'll have to see if I can scrape up some ingredients for another amaretto too.
