A meeting of the minds

Post by woodshed »

In another thread I mentioned we should all try to get together at a music festival somewhere to share knowledge and the product that results from it.

Any interest out there? Sometime next year. Jimbo says he's in.

Why hell yes! We can all meet up on the doorsteps of Tim Smith the day the new season of Moonshiners comes on and have a good tar and feathering for the evenings entertainment! Get Tickle pickled and let him cast on the feathers! Do this only after first showing up with AtF stickers on the vehicles and fake law credentials and waterboarding his ass. Wonder if they would disguise our voices with synthesizing and blur out our faces if the film crew was tipped off? Or infiltrate the music festival of the two dumbasses that tried to build the underground stillin room and has thst ugly ass dog. Maybe capture the dog and ransome it or give him a complete body shave! Or show upmat woodshed distilling wearing tee shirts prompting the question "Got Heads or Tails?"
Just some random thoughts on the event!
See it as a "Wild Hogs" sort of event. LOL

I'm liking the idea of somewhere in between Woodsheds idea an GA's brier rabbit episode. That would be an awesome conversation every one together, could you imagine tasting 2 or 3 of everyone's stuff, holy cow you'd be beyond drunk.

haha. I can see it now, The ATF reading this laughing and saying to each other, look here Gaylord, we can let them all round themselves up for us.

But this is where GA's Briar Rabbit episode kicks in, and the tar and feathering begins..

My vote is somewhere in the mountains. Lots of great festivals at Red Rocks. Beautiful campgrounds all around we could stoke up a fire in. And the cool nights will feel good sleeping under the stars after pickling our livers.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

I'd be up for this. The outdoors type thing, like a corn roast idea. Only problem is, the only relatively safe place legal aspects would be NZ. Perhaps a convention type setting of those wishing to "discuss the aspects of legalizing hobby distilling" would be a route to take?

I like the concept and if such an event occurred near me I would try to attend . Problem is distances . Perhaps we should consider that problem like Ducks Unlimited does . Divide the US by 4 flyways and organize events central to each of them . Elect emmisaries from each area to attend venues in other districts with voluntary attendance open to others that could find time to travel . The world wide scope of this hobby on this site precludes a single gathering spot for all at a given time .

you can count me in on the east coast. but I would be willing to travel as well. if this takes off there should be a ribbon or button a red had or something that we would all wear to identify each other. only to be disclosed via PM . or something along those lines. maybe limited to people with "X" amount of posts as well. idk throwing out ideas

Good ideas except for the post count. I'm on probably 6 to 8 hours a day. Usually just reading. Besides, us new guys could probably have the most to gain out of a setting like this! Maybe what I think is good stuff taste like crap to everyone else's stuff? Maybe I'd find out that I'm right on par with the old timers because I've done my research? Just my opinion on the matter.
But what the heck do I know.....I am still learning.

I hear ya StillLearning. While I know what I have now tastes better than my first runs, I haven't tried what the old timers would consider good. It's about making what you like, but what of we are missing something "better". meeting to try others product would be nice, but opens that whole can of worms of no longer being anon. Who's to say somebody among us isn't law. What's the risk you are willing to take. However, just a meet to talk isn't illegal at all, and I think that is more of what woodshed is after. To meet and discuss. Methods, experiences, views.

Now that sounds like a good place to meet! Very fitting! A venue like that would be about as safe as could be. With many curious about moonshine, and those of us that do, easy to "blend in".

Until some guys showing off his silicone, lead infused, aluminum pressure cooker and a couple thousand guys telling him to do the mandatory reading.
I think the whole idea is awesome, would be interesting and educating. Everybody would be pissy drinking only commercial and beer.

It's a great idea Woodshed
I also like Truckinbutch's ducks unlimited idea, we could be drunks unlimited
We have had a couple of these get togethers and the have always been a real good time. I have been able to try some great spirits and have made some great friends  One of the only problems is everybody trying everybody else's products in a short evening gets a little rushed and very drunk. A weekend event at a campground would probably be a good venue.

I agree with TB. Keep throwing out ideas.
Getting together for good music, fellowship, and to discuss our collective experience is not breaking any laws.
I cannot imagine any LE being concerned enough with this to bother. Anyone been to a biker rally or hippie festival lately? Jars of spirits are everywhere. Not to mention the amount of drugs. And cops. Never seen anyone with a jar get busted. If we do a festival we are there for the music. The campfire is where we will discuss our experiences.

I will host anything out my direction.

I can see it now, a field with 200 beer kegs with all kinds of copper to look at. Gonna have a pond for a hot tub after we all hook into it for a coolant tank. We could even have contest like fastest striping run, highest proof.....ect..
