S3:16

Post by woodshed »

For God so loved the world he gave us grains. To toast and roast. Even to smoke. With a toast or roast.

The grain bill for this year is very open to interpretation. Throw some highly modified grains in there and let's see who represents the best. I was blown away when I sipped on the offerings at the first S3 meeting.

Windy's Rasputin was the spark for this recipe. So if you have a hard time blame him 8)

Have been looking into various options for lodging. Healing Waters would be recommended by those who came to this years I suspect. It will be easier to book a room there in 2016 as we are moving the meeting until later in June.
As stated I am working on more options. There is a place with 15 nice rooms 1/2 mile from the distillery that may be perfect for us to take over.

S3:16 will be June 25th and 26th.

Please PM me if you can commit to S3:16. I will send you info on options.

That's great. Wanted to be there this year, unfortunately couldn't. Will be there next time though. Putting a bottle up now to bring along.
You know your an alcoholic when you have your own still, mash your own grain and distill your own likker, but you don't care!!! A.A. is for quitters.

Once again I will most likely be there in spirit. It is a tough time of year for me to get off but you never know. I'm working on a few ideas to send that way. Hopefully I will succeed in an all-grain smoked wheat I also hope to have a few of the brandies done with maybe a special very difficult to obtain fruit if I can pull it off.

In. Fo-sho. Need to make some likker but haven't distilled a single lick since I've been back. Got about 40 gallons of gumball head style 3 malt bourbon done and waiting on me to get out there. Can't get a day to myself lately.

This far out, I'd hafta say I'm in. I would enjoy seeing the same crowd with new additions. Good lead time for planning and S3:16 t-shirt design.

There is a, as of right now, small chance I might be there. Very small chance. It all depends on what happens with the distillery internship. But I would like to meet you folks.

Ready to start mashing tonight....no clue how the flavors will mesh though. Not being a beer brewer, don't have any experience with the dark/roasted grains.....but that's half the fun.

The real question is weather to double run in the pot, where I'm more comfortable in my cuts.....or go with the flute? I don't always get enough from the stripping run to fill the keg enough for a spirit run in a 24 gal ferment. With the flute...no spirit run and no worries :)

+1.

She wouldn't let me this year because she was "9 months pregnant, blah blah blah..."

Well, were 9 months out now from S16, she's just going to have keep her mittens off me. None for her.

And that's an fyi to the rest of ya. Please, think of the consequences before you engage this month. :problem:

My barrel of S3:16 Triple Smoke been aging for avg 4 months now (4 runs from 5/1 to 7/1). 4 months is when i start tasting things, so I pulled the cork and gave a taste, watered down to 80 proof or so. its damn nice, ready to drink now (I think my cuts are tighter with the flute) but the smoke aint quite there like I wanted. Its got peat, cherry and beechwood smoked malts in it, but damn if the smoke aint dissipating fast with age. Wish i would have used more smoked malts. Note to self for the next batch. Id put this in a category with the mildest of the scots scotch. not a bad thing, but I am a fan of the Islay's. Oh well, she'll get dranked up nonetheless.
