That's a nice set up, Fart
It takes brains to make gravity work for you.
Didja build the lift from scratch or modify a ready made one?
Got a picture of your injector?

Hi shady. In hindsight I guess my forum name isn't very flattering. Flatulating maybe!shadylane wrote:That's a nice set up, Fart
The lift is of my own design, I tested it with a full barrel (200L) of water 200kg/440lbs. I might replace the hand winch with a cheap atv winch, pretty hard to hoist with that much weight. Then again, I won't be winching that often.
Here's a picture of the business end of the injector.
Small holes all the way through (both sides). I arranged the holes to be sideways in the barrel. Didn't have an issue with plugging, pressure never went up.
55lbs of corn, 15lbs un-malted barley, 35gals of water, enzymes. SG:1.05
Very happy so far!

Cool idea with the lift! Looks like you got a good working set up. Nice job.

It would be already complete if I wasn't having so much trouble finding low prv rated for steam. I'd like to have two. Each within a psi (or so) of each other as a backup. Any help locating these would be great!

Re: Direct steam injection
5 psi is safe inside a keg? I was thinking 1 psi and a redundant 3psi as a fail safe....5 isn't too large?shadylane wrote:Here you go https://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Valve-13- ... lief+valve" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Re: Direct steam injection
5 psi is the lowest, steam rated relief valve I have found.
I also have a 6 foot tall manometer, that will start blowing bubbles at 2.6 psi
When I'm injecting steam into a 24" deep container, the pressure will be a little over .87 psi

After some digging I found that releif valve I just need someone to chime in and tell me if they think it'll work.shadylane wrote:5 psi is the lowest, steam rated relief valve I have found.

JMHO
It will work on a small boiler
But it will vent if you try blowing bubbles more than around 2 foot deep

This is looking to be a much more complex project then I initially thought it was going to be. I'm all about safety I just don't know where to start.

Direct steam injection is a thumper you cook inrain distillate wrote:This is looking to be a much more complex project then I initially thought it was going to be. I'm all about safety I just don't know where to start.
I think it's safer than a thumper, there's no flammable alcohol vapor involved.
Just make sure something connected to the boiler will start leaking steam, long before enough pressure builds up to go BOOM.
That's why I like using a manometer, It's fail safe, simple and Cheap.
As a side benefit, It also gives a very accurate measurement of pressure

Re: Direct steam injection
Neat elevator! How does it work? I see what looks like a small set of pulleys, but they don't look like enough to lift a full barrel, unless you use a winch or something?
*Edit, never mind, got the pic up on a big screen and can see the hand winch now (and the comment about it) Still a neat contraption. Also if you don't want to go the power winch upgrade, a few more pulleys and you can do it all mechanically. Anyway, feel free to post some detailed shots of that frame, I think it's one of the cooler projects I've seen on here.
