Steamer build plan

Re: Steamer build plan
I always check the URL (web address) that a search result points to before clicking... All search engines clearly list at least the main domain address at the beginning of the link... This is something I conditioned myself to do way back in the early days of internet search engines... Any links starting with ww. or m. or t. are not legitimate links in Forum Google Search results... Only homedistiller.org and http://homedistiller.org are legitimate domain links...

Re: Steamer build plan
I've been putzen around and hope to get atleast a vinegar run done this or next weekend. I've decided to simplify it. I'm gonna go with an inline setup. Gonna go with a 5 gallon thump on top of a 24.69 gallon steam driven boiler. I'm gonna go with a perf plate with a whole bunch of little holes. Gonna set the down comer to hold four gallons (about 10" fluid depth). Gonna use the deflag off my old flute to fill thump/load the plate.
My thinking is that I should be able to get barrel strength in single run. On my old single plate I would get 65-70% on single pass but that was with an internal element for heat. This on will be steam injected so I'm sure I'll loose a few points. I plan on running full reflux till either the boiler is at calculated temp that the charge should boil at or after the plate loads. I'll have to run it to see.
If it don't work I'll cut the "plate" out and just use it as a steam stripper.
Here is a crappy pic to give an idea.

Re: Steamer build plan
The big question is how many hole in the plate. It's gonna be powered buy a keg with a 4500 watt element and both are gonna be insulated. I'm thinking around a hundred 1\16" holes.

Re: Steamer build plan
Need some input. I have two options for the cap. One is a stainless milk bucket with a copper head containing a reflux condenser or a copper pot head.

Re: Steamer build plan
Its done (for now). Doing a vinegar run and no leaks. I opted to go with a straight 3" pot head. 2" fill port and 1" drain. 15.5 keg feeding a 24 gallon barrel (started out as a ss55). Steam arm is 3/4 and screws into the side, can also screw a element into it to run it. Still gotta insults it after the cleaning process.
Yes its ugly as shit but damnit I built it.
I'm calling it the ugly £cuckin whisky maker.

Re: Steamer build plan
I believe that my cheap ass is gonna have to spend some money. I usually dip the mash outta the cemented with a bucket add pour it in to the pot. I think I'm gonna buy a pump and pump it in. Anyboby know if a small sump pump will handle corn and rye gravy. I'm off to research pumps.

It uses a "manual prime mover", but can handle particulate laden slurries.jedneck wrote:...Anyboby know if a small sump pump will handle corn and rye gravy..
