Re: Steam Injection Rig
Just a quick update for the 1 or 2 who are interested.
Steam rig has worked great. I wished Brutal or RG's portability was more of a consideration for me, as when you cut pressure, you suck in solids. Is what it is. A removable plug on a solid copper pipe seems like a good idea (think threaded), but a lot of examples exist that compensate for that in an efficent way. Don't build it soldered like I did.
The rig has made many-a-booners. It has also made bent's Oat/Wheat/Rye a couple of times, along with a dry cob mix that turned out OK. Let me tell you...corn is tough stuff. Oats mixed with rye and wheat in the ratios Bent mentioned make corn look easy. At least in my pot.
I am recommending the method to people, as it does a great job, doesn't burn anything, and can be used for about any recipe. Also, you already own the expensive part of the system...(heat source and boiler).

Re: Steam Injection Rig
Hank,
I'm glad she's working out so well for you. I can't imagine going back to a small pot on the induction cooker anymore. I will say that I have done up to 100# of grain with no issues. The only thing I can see being a possible problem is that the corn is slowly getting caked on my SS tubing(hot water connection)... the good news is that I can completely remove and replace it if/when it becomes an issue and it isn't too expensive.
I do LOVE that SS vat of yours...

Easy as... valve for release of steam before shuting down and a union to take apart for cleaning the dirty end!

Re: Steam Injection Rig
Copper, the break is a manual stainless ball valve I open above the boiler prior to killing power.
Re: Steam Injection Rig
Hank I don't know how I didn't post in here before. Actually I do. The last 9-10 months has whipped my ass. But I'm here now to say I LIKE IT! It looks purdy and it sounds like it works good too. Keep up the good work!
