Spring is here!

Post by Bushman »

It's been a few years since I worked on my absinthe and it is a shame to have my absinthe fountain made by Mash Rookie just sitting in a glass cabinet. Yesterday I ordered 1000 Artemisia absinthium seeds and 450 Pimpinella anisum seeds. Probably head to our comunity garden today if it doesn't rain and start getting a section ready for planting once I get the starts going. Lot of seeds but that was the cheapest way I could find them online.

Looks like I started this process even earlier this year.

Hi Guys and Gals,

Ol Boom has had a pretty rough few months, so my apology for not keeping up with what ever has been going on. Last summer I started having some serious health issues, which as it turned out was caused by a cancer in my lower intestine. Took several months to get a handle on the problems, and chase out the culprit, but finally managed to define the problems and find a medical plan to resolve the issues.

Long and short of it is, I had what is called a 'Whipple surgery' on March 2, and am still on IV feeding and have a few remaining drains that are tagging along with me where ever I go. They apparently remvoed all the cancer, and I'll be good to go soon. Haven't had a drop to drink (water or booze) or been allowed to eat anything since then. Have pretty constant pain, but it is lessening by day, and I hoping to be back to something resembling normal by mid April.

Sorry, just in case anyone missed me, not to worry, I'm coming back on line. Looking forward to catching up on the chatter and developments that I may have missed.

Boom

Bushman, You are gonna love having fresh dried herbs to work with. Once the plants are established they are low maintenance, and most of them multiply like crazy, even to the point where they become a nuisance. I've got 11 varieties of perennials starting to wake up now. That will be 13 if I put in fennel and coriander again.

I didn't have any luck getting A. a. to sprout from seeds. I finally had to buy a couple of plants. Angelica is another one you might consider growing at home, just because the seeds are so expensive in the quantities we need. Perennials are so cool. God knows just when to make them pop up and take off.

I hope he won't mind me outing him, but ... if you hit a snag you can't find the answer to anywhere else, our HD brother sweeps knows everything about herbs. He's been very helpful to me.

Good luck.

Thanks Skow, I will also be planting fennel at home and not the community garden. Hope to add Coriander, Calamus, Angelica Root and Chamomile.

I think I've got a lifetime supply of fennel seeds, but I remember someone recommending to use the crowns instead. Maybe I'll grow some just to try that.

I've got the veggie garden partially planted and a quarter acre tilled that'll be for the corn. Just wish oi didnt have to plant the corn but hand. Went with peaches n cream sweet corn instead of the Kentucky butcher sweet. Three seeds will go in each hole ,corn, either zucchini or yellow squash and black eyed peas. The veggie garden has tomatos,4kinds, okra, jalepenos of course ,onions, garlic that comes back yearly, cabbage and cauliflower.
The honeysuckle has buds on it and the blackberries are already the size of a pencil eraser.

Life's good.
Glad your back boom!

Seeds on the way, still negotiating with the wife on how much bed space she is going to allow me in the Community Garden. I might just rent another section and not worry about it.

Weathers been nice here. I just got around to doing the rotovating. I grow all my own veg. I find it therapeutic. It does be sometime in winter before i have to buy any. Although i hate shelling them damn peas, nice an all as they are.
