Post by TRANSPLANTED HILLBILLY »

Does anybody have info on how to get/where to order Popcorn Suttons book and video.
I don't know if writing to him care of Maggie Valley,NC would take care of it or not. I know he is well known in the area.
If it was easy everybody would do it.

ya, i've checked amazon and barnes and noble several times and they never have stock. Thats why I figured I'd just go to the source.
Gonna start by first batch of Uncle Jesse's SM today. Sure hope I've got it together good enough now to get the results the rest of the board seems to have gotten.

Popcorn is a real character. He has become quite the celebrity when it comes to moonshine. He is a chain smoker and cusses like a sailor. You can run into him anywhere from his antique shop, (read, junk shop) at the foot of the hill in Maggie Valley to moonshine festivals in Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. What you see is what you get and he don't give a damn if you like it or not. He makes his own stills and made the one you will see in the video. He will ask you if you want the R rated or X rated video. The difference is in the amount of cussing that he does, nothing else.

Maximk,
If you want the tape, book or pictures, then use the above listed address. If you want, call directory assistance for Ernestine Upchurch at Maggie Valley, N.C. She is a friend of Popcorn and can get you in touch.

Good Article HR. I saw this show on the tube a good while back and this is why I wanted to get his book and video to begin with.

Watch all four videos if you got a fast enough connection. Gooooooood entertainment. 8)

Popcorn will be making a new video in the near future. Also, if you were around Harrod's in Cherokee, N.C. this past weekend for the Willie Nelson concert, that was Popcorn standing in the wings. I heard that he and Willie hit it off like long lost brothers.

Thanks, that's a good question. The Last One is sixty minutes total, and a little more polished; tv-friendly you might say. Doc Channel gave it a TV-PG rating. It has interviews with Joe Dabney (author of Mountain Spirits), Jerry Alexander (author of Where Have All the Moonshiners Gone?) and folklorist/historians, etc., so it goes a little deeper into the role of moonshine in Appalachian culture. It has music with Henry Queen, Raymond Fairchild and others, plus the DVD has bonus commentary and Raymond Fairchild pickin some tunes at the Maggie Valley Opry House.

Some folks will want it straight up, no chaser and I understand that. You can still get the raw, original "This Is the Last Dam Run of Likker I'll Ever Make" from Popcorn.

ALSO, anyone looking to reach Popcorn, the above address in this string is not current; send mail to:
Popcorn Sutton
Post Office Box 38
Parrottsville, TN 27843

And, I think everyone knows this but, he does not like to be called Marvin.

I bought mine directly from his wife.. It was autographed and I got it for $50.00

Pam Sutton
PO Box 38
Parrotsville tn. 37843

I did have her e mail address but I have a new computer and I cannot find it. I may have to fire up my old laptop and dig it out..
Hope this helps.. She had several books that Popcorn autographed before he took his life.. but that has been well over a year ago when I got mine from her.. I also have a video she sent me of him running his 600 gallon post still.

I have the autographed book from her. It took three weeks to arrive to the lower 48, and she shipped it out the day it was ordered. It's a good read.
