Yeast Volume per Pound
I am wanting to purchase some Superstart Distillers Yeast. I'm not sure how much to order. I would like to know approximately how many ounces/cups/etc (by volume) are in one pound of this yeast. Thanks.

454 grams in pound,, most packs you buy are 5 grams ,so that's about 90 packs.

Dnder,
Thanks for the reply...however, I'm still at a loss as to the approximate volume of a pound of this yeast. The recipe calls for 1/4 cup. So I need to have some idea how many 1/4 cups are in 1 pound of the yeast. Thanks

Does it really matter, if the recipe calls for a quarter cup then pitch a quarter cup. How many quarter cups to the pound is really just theory.

a cup is 8 oz ,,1/4 =2oz ,a lb is 16,,so you git about 8 washes out of a LB. (there is a slight difference in a liquid cup and a dry cup)

I use super start a lb of it will over fill a pint jar with some left in bag.Bag it comes in says add 1-2 lb per 1000 gallon mash.I like it does well in hot weather with out causing off tastes . Ive used it for fruits and grain mashes with good results and I don't think ya can beat it for rum. However in cold weather I go with ec1118. or a mix of the two.
I use a pot still.Sometimes with a thumper

Thanks Tater,
Having an idea of the actual "volume" of a one pound (16oz by weight) bag is the answer I was looking for. (I occasionally deal with chemicals where one pound could fill up a gallon jug and a different chemical would only fill up a coffee cup) Also glad to know it does good in warm weather...since things are starting to heat up in L.A. Thanks again!
