ICE ON THE WORM OR COLD WATER FLOW?

Post by Stayshine »

Is it better to fill my worm bucket with ice or plug a hose in it and just run the water through it?

ice is not the best way of cooling distillate. you want a cooler then boiling temp not freezing . several reasons but one is that your wasting time using ice because the cooling water just has to be colder then the temp of the vapor to cause condensation. also by having the distillate coming off warm rather then cold you allow for some nasties to evaporate as you collect. there is a much more technical answer to this whole process but the use of ice is covered often ... i would just say use running or recirculated water and you will be just fine

Shock cooling is never the right answer... Not to mention that straight ice will eventually promote voids... This subject has been covered far too many times and further discussion simply isn't warranted here... :problem:
