Question on my first batch of birdwatchers wash
So I just finished fermenting my first batch of birdwatchers. It began at 1.09 and ended at .996. I put it in the fridge and let it settle for about a week and I had a cake of yeast at the bottom. I racked it off into another carboy dumped the yeast and then put it back in the fridge. It's been sitting for two days and now I see this strange line that appears to be some sort of salinity level? I think all the Yeast is all out of the wash but I'm not sure. What's this line that I'm looking at? Above the line seems to be more clear than below the line. I should say that I also stirred the wash vigorously for about five minutes after racking it the first time. I read on the forums here they getting the gas out helps it settle better.

I thought attached a photo. Did the photo not show up?
Re: Question on my first batch of birdwatchers wash
No photo here. I'm guessing it's some yeast or something still in suspension in the part that isn't as clear
Re: Question on my first batch of birdwatchers wash
Yeah, that looks like a layer floating on top with less sediment/yeast/tomato paste suspended in it. Given more time I'm sure more would settle out further but it's already cleared more than what I usually run
Re: Question on my first batch of birdwatchers wash
I siphon it out of the fermenter into the still as soon as it goes dead. I've never noticed any off flavors that couldn't be separated out on the spirit run.
