My local Southern States carries Manna Pro, but when I asked they said that it contained pellets. I didn’t buy a bag to try, I just purchased grains separately.

I don’t know if it’s due to location, northeast, but I can’t get it. Even the purple bag Producers Pride from Tractor Supply can’t be shipped to store for pickup.

Just did a marathon read on this thread. Lot of info on here Thanks everyone. I see the last few posts are saying to get COB from walmart. It's unavailable online right now.

*edit*
Seems the purple bag is no longer a pellet free option.

Hard to say from where I sit, but if you read far enough through the question and answers section I think I'd be ok about using it. Corn oats barley molasses.

Anyone ever order from this site? " Trust Deals mart" ? i can't find any good or bad reviews. on this site or anywhere online. It looks like a walmart site, with a bit of searching it shows that walmart bought them in the last year or 2. Decent price with free shipping.

**edit**

I just tried ordering from there, i used an old sprint american express. i wasn't 100% there were funds on it anymore. it said the card was declined. So i put a credit card in that i know funds are on, i rarely use this card also so if it's a scam it shouldn't be to hard to deal with. It also said declined put another card in... So i'm not thinking this is a reputable site to deal with.

I live near Denver, Colorado. We have a feed store I'll leave un-named.
It's called sweet 3-way. The 50lb bag is $14.99, and its Corn, Oats, Barley saturated in Molasses. The front of the bag says "FEED".

I'm surprised there aren't feed stores around most of the parts where people are asking because I'm in a super socialist city and we still have one.

Anyway, you can go to Murdoch's and separately purchase cracked corn, oats, and barley, plus buy the molasses cheap online in bulk:
https://www.webstaurantstore.com/golden ... KSTPP.html

only problem is storing 150 pounds of grain before you can use it.

I feel confident the recipe would do better with splitting up the ingredients, to maximize the sugars available from corn, using high temp alpha and then adding the others with gluco at about 152F or whatever it needs. I think my oats and barley are suffering from too high a temp, but its still delicious as the original recipe calls for.

The original recipe is about as awesome as it gets flavor wise for money, time, and effort.

Not all pellet feed is bad. Jussayin...

Gotta read the ingredients.
Seems to me it's just the stuff with certain preservatives and alot of grass additives that is the real problem.

My dad and I started running sweetfeed shine, after I stumbled across the idea, on some facebook group. We tried several brands. We have used both kinds with and with out pellets. For us, the pellets didnt mess up the taste for us, we really couldnt tell they were in there. However, they will turn into the sludge stuff in the fermenters and It is a pain to deal with.

The brand we have found we like the best is Producers Pride All Grain:

https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/produ ... XQQAvD_BwE

It works very well, taste great and is cheap. Ill even buy some black strap molasses and toss some extra in on occasion.
To Drink, or not to Drink... That is the question.

So I have moved up to (2) 20 gallon ferments, which yields me a grain bed of approximately 8gallons worth, with me taking maybe 12 gallons of hazy beer.
I've scoured the thread, again, and I must have missed where the backset addition is specified. My understanding is that I'm supposed to leave the grain bed, and refill with backset warmed sugar, at 90F.

I have not made this multi generation before, so I'm confused about how to calculate sugar/gallon to my additional 12 gallons or so I'm adding back for 2nd generation. Will the alcohol that is already contained in the grain bed screw up the next ferment?

Thank you Durhommer!

I just took a 300ml jar at 60%...setting that aside from now on out of every run. WOW! I get more impressed each time.

I think adding HT Alpha and gluco has altered the flavor but I've got none left of the original recipe so I can't be sure, but hot dog this is awesome!

Just now starting my first ever run of this stuff, went on the search for the correct bag, finally found it after tweaking out on the tractor supply website and also did 2 exchanges there, found out it had pellets. FINALLY! I found the bag without pellets,

it's the Producers Pride: Sweet COB, purple bag
SKU 280087099

Upon reading the description and a bunch of questions before driving into town, I didn't see anything about pellets. Bought the bag, opened in the truck, Lo and behold.... No pellets!!

Slightly different. So guna do a 4 gallon batch since my still is 5 gallons, leave a gallon of headspace. 6 lbs of sweet feed, 6 lbs of plain white sugar, heating up 2 gallons of gen 4 ujssm backset, then guna put in 2 and a half gallons of my well water. I've got some gypsum, lemon juice, ph tests, refractometer, etc. If all turns out fine n dandy, I'll make 50 gallon batch of mash.
Will update with pics in a bit

Here's a pic as promised. Bubbling away quite nicely, starting gravitg at 1.085, used Red Star dady, bit of gypsum, some squeezes of lemon, etc. Curious question for anybody willing to answer... Do people on here start their own thread to post about their ferments and runs, etc or do ya just post what's going on in any relevant thread?

A simple search gave me this result: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=48217

It’s a corn-oats-barley mix sweetened with molasses. Percentages are not critical and adjustable to taste.

Did some mods to my still, added a lil gin basket in the vapor path between the boiler and the football shaped part of the column. Filled it full of cranberries and blackberries, boiler full of the sweetfeed wash. Got the football mounted vertically and filled with more berries. Figured the vapor go thru the first set of berries and then thru the 2nd set. Comingle, get some good flavors, condense on some of the berries like having packing inside a column. Worked out pretty well! Stuff been coming out at 68% abv, taste like the berry mixture pretty good, with a good bit of the sweetfeed aftertaste. Ran it thru a couple runs at a time, break it down and swap old berries for new. Repeat. All in all, I collected 4 gallons from a 46 gallon wash. Sat all my good tasting cuts in quart jars, mixed em into a couple 1 gallon carboys for storing for a while. All my okayish tasting bits, guna play with em and see if I get something good outta em. The rest I'll use as feints for next time I run. Waiting to get a barrel from local winery, they have a few 10 gallon barrels once in a while for sale

I've got my first effort at this recipe fermenting as we speak. My "all grain" sweetfeed looked and smelled great but didn't seem to have that much visible corn in it so I added 4 cups of cracked corn. Hopefully that didn't screw up the "sweetness" of it. We'll see! I use a pot still with a thumper. Normally I would put some of the mash in the thumper when I run it but I'm wondering if there is a better way to "enhance" the flavor that carries through. I'd like to now if anyone has put some uncooked unfermented sweet feed in the thumper with some of the mash or maybe cook some sweet feed and put the unfermented liquid in the thumper. Thoughts on these ideas or any other to enhance the flavor that comes through? Also, what ABV have you found works best for this recipe? My starting SG was 1.075 which is a little less that 10 ABV. Didn't see any mentions of the SG's or final ABV of the mash in the thread so I'm just looking for input at this point.

Found this on another site:
Ingredients

sweet feed (unpelletized)
Chopped corn
sugar
yeast
water
This recipe will make 30 gallons of mash by total volume including the grains.

See the chart below for different size recipes for mash batches in gallons. To alter the batch size just insert numbers from the chart into the instructions that follow.

Gallons Grains (gallons) Yeast (Tablespoons) Sugar (pounds)
30 5 6 25
20 3.5 4 16
10 2 2 8
5 1 1 4
2.5 0.5 0.5 2
Instructions

Crack the grains

In a large pot add five gallons of water, an outdoor turkey fryer pot works great. Bring this water to 160f. I use an outdoor propane burner.

120 qt pot for heating up the water
While waiting for the water to come to temperature put one part sweet feed to 2 parts corn in a 5 gallon bucket until its full. I use a one gallon scoop so it doesn’t take as long. Set aside until the water reaches 160f

1 part sweet feed to 2 parts chopped corn
Now you can add the grains and reduce heat to maintain 160f for 45 minutes. Continuously stir the mash to avoid letting the grains scorch on the bottom of the pot.

Mix the mash

Now dump the cracked grains into a 30 gallon container and stir in 25 lbs. of sugar. When the sugar is dissolved completely add 15 to 20 gallons of cold water until the mash mix reaches 30 gallons by total volume.

Add the yeast

When the temperature of the mash drops down to the temperature recommended by the manufacturer of the yeast you can go ahead and add the yeast. I have found that 1 tablespoon of yeast per 5 gallons of mash works well.

Been a good while and found some COB SF. The wash smelled good and tasted sweet. Ran it thru and I think I messed something up It started at 140 and I pulled the plug at 100 (may have been a mistake). Man this stuff just burns the nostrils and is harsh (toned a couple shots down to taste). I have another one cooking now for a comparison. Its a new setup with 3 good cleaning runs with some rolled copper in the tower just because I have it. I guess I could re-run it all.

The "All Grain" at Tractor Supply has no pellets. $15 for 50lbs. That keeps the size of my sour mash going for a couple of months at least. Since this stuff is for animals it doesn't have the government controlled supply chain mandated ingredient label. So a lot of bags of sweet feed wont say it on the label.

But they usually say protein content. If the bag says over 8% protein, it surely has pellets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent a few hrs a day for a couple days, read the first 38 pages of this thread, didn't see any mention at all of mixing this recipe with Rad's all bran recipe. Also read his thread. Figured I'd try a bit of an experiment. Got me a few sacks of each that I get locally, a lot better than the tractor supply stuff I've been using the past couple months and about a mile away, a lot better than the hour n half round trip to and from TS.

25 LBS (half bag) of the sweet feed
25 LBS of flaked red wheat bran
1 bag of sugar (50 LBS)
2 cups of choco Malt O Meal for nutrients (flavor carry over?)
The chocolate kind is all I could find after going to 2 big box stores
5 gallons of backset from a ujssm run I did a while back and saved in my fridge
4 teaspoons of gypsum. Didn't have any more backset to lower my ph. My water is 8.8 ph and didn't have enough backset to lower the ph, so added the gypsum. I have 20 yards of gyp, so no problem there hahaha!
30 gallons of boiling water to dissolve my sugar and the molasses in the SF. Let it sit til the next day to cool down to about 68 then added an aquarium heater and got it to 80. Starting gravity, corrected for temperature, was 1.076. Added 3/4 pound of active bakers yeast.

Stirred it up with my drill and home-made stainless paddle bit for a bit, 10 minutes or so, then cleaned everything up and called it a day. A lot of people don't like opentop, some do, as far as I know anyway. I ferment open top, but I use a 50 micron screen over the top of my fermenter. Checked it yesterday and today, it's going so well it almost looks like it's boiling! Smelled and tasted sweet when I started, getting pretty dry/bitter tasting. Been about 4 days now. I'll update again tomorrow with at least one, possibly 2 pics. I know people like pictures lol

Happy Easter Sunday to all :)
The ferment has slowed quite a bit, most of the cap fell down. Now just a light foam on top. Gravity now is 1.026, but lots of particulate in my sample, so maybe lower than that? Will update when done fermenting and racked over to clear up more. Cheers!
