Noob from South Africa

Post by RudiC »

Hello, my name is Rudi and I'm from sunny South Africa.

I started making beer a few months and currently trying to learn to distil a few fermented washes. I'd love to make a few decent rums. Tried a few, but I love rum so much, they all tasted half decent. Maybe at a later stage even whisky and other spirits I don't consume.

Been reading the forum for a while and love it, glad to be here and learning from the experts.

Cheers

Hi Rudi,

Welcome. Also from SA. Lockdown has driven many locals to this awesome hobby. If you like rum, you've got to try "Buccaneer Bobs Rum" recipe. It should be in "Tried and tested". You'll find blackstrap molasses readily available locally.

Cheers

Nice to see a few locals here. Thanks for the warm welcome

Yeah our lock down restrictions woke this hobby up big time in SA.

I've made a few washes, mostly rum experiments. Also me the Birdwatchers TPW which turned out nice as well.

Trying to find rum and sugar wash recipes is how I got to this site. The problem was stopping hehehe, so much good info here. Even got all the info regarding stills and their designs here.

Looking forward to some more reading and experimenting.
