Current Control 110V , burning the wall socket

Post by planohog »

I have been using a motor control for running a boil pot 1500 Watt 120vac. I use a washer plug, heavy grey thing to connect from the motor control to the wall socket. The pot plugs into the other side. The problem is the wall socket , it showing scorch or burn marks .This is the device,
Voltage Regulator, Electronic Thyristor Voltage Regulator, SCR Voltage Regulator Dimmer, Motor Speed Controller .
I get the most plug heat when running in a reduced mode. ( not full blast ).

I figure its the device. I found this thing and used it , not knowing , if it would work, how it would work, why I would even need it. Well the pot has a temp control and its on/off to keep a temp in a range. This condition is not what you want. I have used it many times and darkend a few plugs around the house. (XYL is not happy about this , ill get new next trip to the orange box )

My fix for this plug burner right now is to build my own, current control unit, like I did for the 240V system I have using
the device [ Solid State Relay SSR-40VA 500K ohm 2W to 24-480VAC 40A Single Phase Solid State Relay Resistance Voltage Regulator Authorized+Heat Sink+Potentiometer+A knob ]

I do not know if it will actually fix the burning wall plug problem, but at least I will have a DIY unit I can work on.
note: this is many times on that plug , did not happen all at one time.
