Dodged a bullet, Keg build

Post by planohog »

Few months back I was a prowd owner of a DIY keg build. I used a 1 inch
NPT Female Threaded Stepped Weld Bung Mounting Stainless. I prepped the bottom
of the keg and the weld bung, with wire brush and sand paper. I thought I had it on
and it seemed perfect not pretty. Time goes on, I run a few things through it without issue.
I started a 3 generation UJSM over a period of a month. On the last stripping run, it was time
to drain the keg, all of it , nothing saved back for gen4. I noticed something weird when I attached
the hose and then I saw a leak, I quickly turned on the pump and tried to hold everything in place
while the backset pumped away. I got it done , with a mess to clean up, lots of mopping, the little lady
was asleep thank the lord. The weight of the pump , and me tighting things up to try and stop a drip,
I guess fatigued the joint enough it came right off. All of that to say , please be aware and carefull of the
silver solder joints. Pictures included. I did not get a good
solder joint, you can see the small copper wire solder dam I used, I will have to clean all this up before a fix.
careful out there, always be ready for a leak, im thinking i might want a shop vac nearby to suck up the spill next time.
I ran this thing about 8 times no problem.
