All about grains. Malting, smoking, grinding and other preparations.
Which grains are hot, which are not.

Small Scale Grain Growing

Post by Secale »

I figured this would be a god place to post this.

Since being interested in alcohol making lately and while having a green thumb.
I will this spring, take the time to grow new things for this hobby. I've ordered
some spring rye seeds packages and will have enough seeds to plant 1300 sq.ft.
according to the description on the packages.

In February, I will be ordering some 6-Row Barley and maybe some spring wheat.

I'm sure I won't have tons of grains for brewing. But growing enough for a small brew
would be cool I think. I wish I had a place with acres to spare. Then I could have some
real fun. Still better to have some than none I say. I suspect I will make a loaf of bread
or two with the wheat though.

The very nice wheat picture below proves that small scale grain backyard grain
production is more than possible. I'll take that golden wheat over flowers any day.

What do you all think about growing some your own brewing grains?
