DIY Corn Grinder

Made a new grinder for whole corn. I think it will work out well.
Parts list
- Harbor Freight angle grinder
- old saw blade cut to size and sharpened like a lawn mower blade
- PVC pipe... 10" or what ever you got
- stainless screen .200 opening

Things that are home made and spin very ,very fast scare me......I've seen more than one fly apart.
It seems to do the job well.......but it still worries me, you'd want that home made blade balanced very well.

I'd want to see a metal ring around the grinding chamber to contain the blade if or when it decides to come apart.

Good result though. That looks like a nice grind.

Nice job! Looks like it works well. There is a blade like that on my gas powered trimmer. Another attachment for a weed wacker!

If it's not balanced then it matters not that it was one piece. At 7000-11000 rpm 10 grams more on one side than the other makes for a huge assymetric force.

Thanks for the feedback thus far!
If anyone has any links of catastrophic failure I would be interested in seeing them. I based my design off of a few youtube videos that work the same but a bit smaller and use plastic and wood to contain the blade.

Overall I wanted a grinder that I dump and grind 40 pounds in a few minutes, one grind, and this should do that no problem.

Yes ... this thing is a bit scary when it is running.
This was sort of a beta test to start with before I made some improvements.

I plan to line the inside with a strip of thin stainless and am looking for some heavy steel pipe 1/4 to 1/2 thick to build a sleeve on the outside to contain the blade if it goes flying. My original idea was to use heavy steel pipe 8 to 10 inch diameter and build the whole thing out of that, making it safer and eliminating the pvc pipe. But Cutting, drilling and tapping the steel pipe would have been taken more time and tools than I had the patience for initially.

I made the flour mill with a washing machine motor and using another one instead of the blade, I saw some on YouTube but I preferred another system. If he does the job well then it's ok...always be careful.

If you are nervous about the PVC see if you can get an old oxygen bottle from a welding supplier. Section it with a side grinder. Ensure it is empty and vented first

If your worried about a blade that isn't balanced, you can use a dado blade for woodworking. It's made to cut a slot or square trough.in wood. Well balanced
