New Build Gut Check

Post by MenacingTourist »

Looking to get a gut check on a new build.

Concept
Pot still config.
Spend time learning to run it and see where things go.
Start with simple recipes.
I like the idea of Whiskey, Rye, Bourbon, Single Malt, Brandy (I also make hard cider), etc.
I want to future-proof as much as appropriate.
Electric heating and controls as I have a ton of power available.

15g stainless Keg
TC fittings throughout.
I plan to flip it and use the 2" opening for a drain.
Cut a 3" opening on top.
Maybe cut another opening for filling and clean out.
Cut two 2" openings for a 6500w and 4500w heating elements (placed as low as possible).
Add legs with casters.
I have access to a pro welder friend, and I'm comfortable and enjoy sweating copper.

Riser + Condenser
3" copper (short piece)
Sight Glass (unnecessary but cool)
3" to 2" copper reducer
Copper elbows
2" x 20" copper shotgun condenser (got parts from Twisted)
Water cooled with reservoir and pump.
Collection run TBD

Electronic Control
Existing 60 amp GFCI breaker.
Two existing 30 amp breakers also available.
Wall mount box for two controllers from Auberins https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main ... cts_id=890
DSPR1 controller. Not sure if I can appropriately control both elements with one controller, but I've read it's possible. This box gives me options.
40a SSR for 6500w element.
25a SSR for 4500w element.
75a external heat sink.
Other items for the box, like a DIN rail, main switch, various cables, etc.

Power Specs
6500w element: 27.1a draw, 125% is 33.75a
4500w element: 19a draw, 125% is 23.75a.
46.1 total amp draw, 125% is 57.6a
60a breaker will handle my needs.

My build/buy mentality is to only cry once. I love systems thinking/building and do it professionally and personally. I'm not in a rush and typically plan and sketch a lot before buying/building.

What am I missing? Does anyone see problems or danger?
I really appreciate all the great information I've read on this forum and I'm looking forward to this build.
