Thats the magic number I was looking for. So with 10 lbs malt I just scale back 5 lbs of sugar. I didnt figure the wheat malt would add a lot of flavor, but I am hoping it will add a tad bit more wheat flavor.. Maybe some crushed All Bran cereal... ??
And thanks for the reply and info Dunder..

Adding malt to DWWG
Have done quite a few small runs of DWWG, but planning on scaling up to 25 US gal and adding wheat malt to add more wheat flavor and some maltiness. My question is should I reduce the sugar I add if I add in malt. I plan on 6 to 8 lbs crushed soft white wheat malt. I am not sure if malting the grain...

Re: Mashing with Rid-X septic treatment only, success it works!
Has anyone ran a mash made with Rid-X yet ? Just wondering if it gives any off tastes for pot distillers.. I am sure it would be clean after refluxing, if one were so inclined.. Anyway, enquiring minds wanna know..

Re: Uncle Remus Rice Vodka
I have been considering freeze concentrating about 3 gallons of this to mix back into the other two to bring the strength and flavor up. Hoping to get 22 to 24 at the end, am shooting for 15 to 16 at end of ferment. Kinda off topic, I have been unemployed for 15 months now (unemployment rate is abou...

Re: Uncle Remus Rice Vodka
Rice wine is chugging right along, a little fast for my taste, a double bubble every 2 second or so, but its staying consitant. Thi may be done sooner than I thought. I think the wheat germ made a differance.. I hope it doesnt change the taste much, as I really liked URRV recipe. I made a batch to r...

Cleaning used container
I just picked up a 5 gallon jug that has only contained veg oil. I found these for .50 cents. Now I am not sure how to clean the oil from the jug before I can even sterilize it. I know hot water alone wont do it, but dont wanna use something that will give me problems later.. Any help?

I am lucky that my best friend is a fabricator/welder and will help with all the tig welding, and also that my brother works at a liquer store and can get me kegs and that I can get a lot of the rest of my materials for free. Re: LIQUID CERAMIC INSULATION
I am trying to keep the power on 110, instead of 220, that is why I was thinking 1500 watt or so, and I will only be doing spirit runs with this 7.5 gallon keg,so all that will be left is some water. I have a 15.5 I use now, and will use it for stripping runs. So weight wont be much of a problem on ...

Re: Onion size and profile?
Sweet, was wondering if the copper was thick enough.. Did you have them solder the halfs together or did you? I wasnt sure if they used silver solder or not.. I saw that they would cut the holes per specs. What size did ya order? How much did everything including shipping run ya? How does it run? LO...

Re: LIQUID CERAMIC INSULATION
I dont believe the ceramic would add more than a couple pounds, and with 5 or 6 layers of fiberglass, maybe a total of 10 lbs, if that much. The ceramic is spray on, the links tell how much to spray on for how much heat you wanna insulate. The site I was looking at says a 15 mm thick layer. This is ...

There is a place to find copper ball half shells and their prices are reasonable. Half shell for top of still, or two silver soldered together for a scottish type still head..

LIQUID CERAMIC INSULATION
I am lookin into building a 7.5 gallon 1500 watt boiler for spirit runs, and was looking at types of insulation. I dont like the idea of cell bubble wrap insulation or foam. I got to thinking about a place I used to work that had a vacume molding shop for van conversion. We made molds in house, usin...

Re: Deathwish Wheat germ recipe
The 10 gallon drum(actually a 9 gallon) may be good for those folks running 5 gallon DWWG, not a bad price for a heavy duty fermenter. I am actually thinking about the 30 gallon for a 15 gallon DWWG, tired of mopping the garage floor....

Re: Uncle Remus Rice Vodka
DBDub, are you aiming to get fermentable sugars from the rice? If so you, you will need the alpha/gluco enzymes to convert the long/short chain sugars to fermentable sugars. Beano alone wont cut it it, as i understand it. But, I may be wrong in my limited use of enzymes, I usually use malted grain m...

Need a good all Rye recipe
I am looking for a good mostly rye recipe to play with. Have been trying to get close to the taste my grandfather made when I was a kid, back in the hills some 40 years ago. I believe he may have aged it in barrels with fruit in them. I can remember watching him fish something out of the still fire ...
