Looks like you are jumping from one bad still to another. :? Care to expound on that olddog? Why is the EasyStill bad? Personal experience or just bound by tradition? Have not seen any bad remarks here other than it's slow. There have been some issues with surging that seem to have been cured and s...

Re: Bow hunting ?
Yep I have broke a few also. As long as you keep the same grain layer on the back free from nicks and such it goes pretty good. I've even left the bark on a couple as experimenting and it (the bark) will crack and eventually peel off altogether but the wood stays intact. I wish you well with your hi...

Re: Bow hunting ?
I have recently become interested in bow construction. Is anyone into this? Cheers. G I have hand made quite a few flat bows along the Meare Heath (sp?) design some years ago though my handles differ a bit in that they have an arrow rest so it's a bit out of tradition. Of all the bows I ever made a...

I hate being two faced so I'm fessing up and coming out of the closet :| Just was a few weeks ago I started getting interested in distilling. Like many I have discovered, my first encounter was stilldrinkin.com. I ordered the plans, joined the forum and found not nearly the full support promised. I ...

Good thread. I'm gonna be trying some of this soon. Thought it interesting to find when researching "wheat germ"..."Cream of wheat: It is sometimes called 'farina' and is finely ground, hulled wheat that still contains the germ and the endosperm. Only the outer bran layer is missing, ...

As for temperature/weather, we use a little rock tied to a string hanging from a limb. If the rock is wet, it's rainy. Ice on it means it's cold and if it moves the wind's blowin

Could be that wines contain the pycnogenol antioxidants found in the seeds?HookLine wrote: The type of alcoholic drink is also significant. Spirits and beers seem to be more damaging than wines, for reasons that are not entirely clear yet. Can't be just the alcohol level, as beer is much lower than wine.

Glass carboys
Been reading up on glass carboys here. So they break alot. I see milk crates for holding them and even wrapping with duct tape. Good ideas. Any body ever wrapped one with rope and epoxied the rope? I've seen some old bottle somewhere that was done that way and they look cool. Was also researching on...

My first attempt at fermenting peaches... Got the square two gallon bucket from my sis-in-law what had the muscadine wine in it and washed. Filled it about half with blended peaches, add some sugar, stir, fill bucket to about three inches from the top with water, stir some more, pitch some yeast and...

Here's the stuff that was floating on the top of the 2 gal. fermenting bucket that was started 10/08/08. It's the muscadine solids, seeds and whatever else. Wine is sweet and stout with no bitterness at all, started with just a pinch of fleishman's bakers yeast and she never even opens a bucket for ...

They say turbo's give a bad taste among the elite here. I gotta say I'm using Prestige Turbo Pure 48 from Brewhaus.com and I can't vouch for any bad taste but I'm also doing a cold and long ferment (7 days) which is supposed to be good for purity. I also cut the yeast in half as is recommended in an...

I'm going there today to pick up two gallons of nine month wine to make into brandy. Will be sure and get the straight scoop on what she do/don't do but I'm pretty sure already. Also to give her some different yeasts that I have on hand to try but she's fairly set in her ways

Yep I'm dang sure she leaves em in there. No bitterness to her wine at all and it's strong but sweet. It'll dang sure kick your bu...

My sister makes the best muscadine wine I ever tasted in five gallon buckets. Her recipe is half a bucket of blended grapes, 10lbs sugar stirred in till dissolved top it up with water and just a pinch on bakers yeast she says "to get it started". Says too much yeast makes it taste funny. S...

Hook, I think it's all of the above. It goes from 3" down to 3/4" over 36". Takes out all the sharp sholders that disrupt the vapor flow in the normal potstills we build. I tried tapering pipe a few times and could never get my cuts right, ended up with lumpy or bent tapers that just...

Fecus, be warned that some turbo yeast washes are not intended to be drank as wine and can cause stomach upset and/or diarrhea due to the yeast nutrients...
