Re: Well....wonder if it's worth it?

Silly for sure....gotta hand it to Ol' Sheriff Grady Judd though, even though he probably thinks it kindergarten cops. Few years back, a Deputy was shot and killed while making a routine traffic stop. Scum bag hid in the woods for 2 days until found. They shot him 68 times.....when asked by the medi...

Re: I need help designing this micro still.

fwiw....I saw a utube video where a geek like yourself (self described  ) uses the heat sink and liquid cooled "plumbing" of the cooling system (in a working system) to "actually" distill a product.

Was no way "functional"....but did drip a distilled product.

I would tend to agree with that......the "puke smell" seems to come with distillation containing "non cleared" washes.

Anyways, all the silly mistakes are behind me now . I've made ammonia, nail varnish, nail varnish remover, stuff that removes nail varnish remover, extract of old sock, refined puke, an' some stuff that attracts flies better than a three week corpse... I figure that all that's left is good...

Re: Distilled my first....well....er....ammonia tonight!

Would the wash....2 gallons dunder mixed with 3 qts feints, be considered "strippings"?

It had a 20% abv reading......once mixed with the dunder.

Re: My first double distillation / flame test / oaking (pics)

So, bearing in mind that with this experimental run I was looking at getting a clean drinkable product without any tails (or worry about methanol), I decided to dump the rest of the output (if I were doing this again I'd keep the rest for a feints run). This turned out to be about 50% abv downwards...

Damn it; lose the sugar completely. All you need is fancy molasses. Make sure it isn't suphured, and don't bother with blackstrap. No nutrients, no nothing. And get some copper in that still head. Lots of copper. Learning to make cuts is always fine advice, but c'mon folks, he's trying to make rum ...

Re: noobie with fermenting problems

My understanding...and use of Turbo classic (at times)...it inherently causes a heat build up. Way more so than bakers yeast. It also produces less gasses as a bakers yeast, as that is what it (bakers) is cultured to do. I believe the reason for directions of not using more than 21l of wash per batc...

This time I'm going to distill twice to try to get the color out. Am I doing something wrong?
It (your distilled product) is off colored AFTER the first distillation?

Not, JUST the wash? (prior to distillation)

Good idea....I know it don't leak. Boiled some water last night.

I've cleaned it up a bunch with the vinegar, salt, flour, lemon juice concoction.

Trying to find some kind of "manufacturer stamp" on it.....no luck yet.
