Re: Gin Conditioning

Watered to 40% or 50% or so. I am doing this blind as my alcometer broke. Taste is a bit to strong but fairly clean. Going without thermometer and alcometer really helps pinpoint tails transitions as you have to do a heck of a lot of smelling and tasting. That's also tough with gin because the fragr...

Re: Green and orange sugar wash

finally distilled this - 3 times to get a pretty neutral base to which I added gin botanicals, soaked overnight, then distilled. pretty decent results.

I still have the 78% raisin brandy, about 750ml of it. I never got around to making another batch of wine, so no port yet. One day though.

No it was just sugar and turbo yeast, enough for about 11 or 12% alcohol.

This stuff finished fermenting over a month ago and has been sitting in the same carboys since. I haven't found time ...

Re: gin experience so far, questions

thanks for the reply kiwi. yeah i agree something is amiss with my numbers as the wash was definitely not 23%!!! I thought it would be about 16%. I don't have a hydrometer at the moment (just an alcoholmeter, which may be a bit off, too) Anyway it was high enough that its not "ideal". Howe...

one year stillin anniversary

hi all just wanted to commemorate my 1 year Likker Makin' Anniersary. It was actually a year and a month ago when I made my first shitty batch of moonshine by distilling some cheap Vermouth using a 2L kettle. A lot has happened since then. Now I am tinkering with an all natural gin recipe on my 58L ...

gin experience so far, questions

hey all heres my gin experience so far. -bought $50 worth of herbs and botanicals, according to the ones Bombay Saphire uses. I chose this only because they publish the ingredients. -ferment 2 carboys of sugar wash. one goes mental. see my "vinegar explosion" post about that. -distill 23L ...

well thanks guys now i know about making sure things are liquid before adding them to a new batch. unfortunately i didn't check back on here to see your opinions before i tossed that whole batch, i was convinced it was vinegar. oh well. i suppose i could do it again, just so i can film it and show y...

likker explosion! vinegar?

i had 2 carboys fermenting sugar. as an experiment one had turbo yeast and the other had bakers yeast with yeast nutrient from the wine shop. they both started off ok, but the turbo one was done in 4 days and the bakers yeast kept plugging away for days. not surprising. not sure what exactly their y...

if you use the three piece kind with the vial-like center piece and the tubular housing it is vastly quieter than the 3 way coil thing with chambers. you know what i mean?

latest thing: we have received an offer from LL to pay 70. less than their initial 85. dicks. anyway we can't decide if we should counter offer that we pay 100 (half of the cost minus 70) or simply tell them we wont pay a cent. its likely that they wont take us to the rental tribunal but even if the...

Re: clogged drain disaster

in this building built in early 20th century the main drain for the sinks (all stacked above each other) seems to be separate from the toilet/bathroom drain.

the block is gone now so that part is done. its just a matter of reaching an agreement with the landlord.

i posted a while ago about "quitting all-grain" due to the many hassles inherent in the process, especially in the area of spent grain disposal. i live in a small apartment in a dense city so its not easy to find a place for gallons and gallons of soggy grain. i didn't quite quit, though, ...

i had the same proble as pomiatta ...fake copper scrubbers. after a whisky run i forget to take them out to clean them. bad idea. they were rusted to the inside of my column! nasty nasty stuff. if its 6 scrubbers for a dollar in chinatown is NOT copper.
