Re: anyone heard of Crosby and Baker Amylase Enzyme Formula?

Hi all, Been meaning to buy a pound of enzymes from milehidistilling.com, but I'm poor and haven't gotten 'round to it yet. I want to do some experiments with rice, sake, and eventually rice vodka or whiskey (is there even such a thing as rice whiskey?). I was in the homebrew store the other day an...

It would be awfully frustratin' for a Newbie to go to the store and buy bags of rice only to find out it c...

Re: Rice

Ok. Maltin' is grain is actually sproutin' the grain to a specific point, then dryin' it. This activates the enzymes present in the grain that convert starch to sugar. When ya buy rice it's polished and no longer can be germinated... it's "dead". Soooo... how the hell did ya malt it? ha h...

Re: Rice

Grind it, if you don't you will get a crummy yeild. Also how hard was it to malt rice and was it brown rice? I have been thinking about malting some instead of using enzimes. It was no big deal took 5 or 6 days. i soaked it for 2 days changing the water twice a day, then put it in a buket with smal...

Re: Malted Rice

Was wondering if it could be malted to covert enzymes instead of using koji or alpha amylase. FYI - the malted rice converts the rice's starch, it doesn't covert the enzymes. The rice enzymes in the malted rice do the work of conversion just like with malted grain. Cheers, bd. Thanks it was early t...
