Punkin, can't explain how it works for sure but I can say that it works very well. As soon as the boiler is sealed and begins to heat up, there will be bubbles coming out of the steam tube. It doesn't take very long to heat up either, 212 degrees steam seems to make mashing alot "better"&q...

Hook is right on spot as always, just one little bit of info I can give you is that using sugar to make fuel will not pan out money wise, I have cracked the numbers and a few body parts on this one, and processed sugar won't work out for me, please let me know if you find out different.

Ok, I am more confused than I was, I have never mixed up a mash that makes my hydometer fall over, seems like that might have been alittle to high of gravity for the yeast? I did however have to make a dive to get my achometer back once.

Hmmm, not sure how to put this. You will never throw out too much. Now that said, only throw out what doesn't smell and taste good after the fores cut. To answer your questions, yes, I made my first one like this. As to what I think, it is way out dated. with a few mods. to it, it makes a great pot still head. There are lots of post here that refer to this design and mods. that have been done to it.

As this was your first run of UJSM, it is the sweet run, the next one will have the backset to make it up and will become your sour mash. Just my 2 cents.
