Re: All Bran Recipe

LWTCS

I had it sitting on oak chips for about three weeks and added a small drop of maple syrup. It was probably more to do with it being at the back of the shelf behind a big jar of Damsons and Neutral soaking than self restraint

Re: Bottling Up

Point taken. I always took care to make sure I had no plastic or rubber in vapour path, storage etc. I'm going to try and seek out some alternative storage but I havent had a lot of luck in the 3L size.

Thanks

Re: What do you think Gents??

Thanks Guys, I was never intending to buy this anyway. I'm only a newbie but I was just intrigued by the design of having the thumper on top, and the size of it. I started off with an still spirits still so have been bitten once already by rushing in!

Hope to build something one day.

Thanks

Re: Deathwish Wheat germ recipe

Hi all Just started DWWG, inverted 5kg of sugar in 5l of water, simmered 500g of wheatgerm for 1/2 an hour, added to fermenter with lemon juice and topped up to 25l. Waited for it to cool and added 4 tablespoons of bakers yeast, came to sit down and I had forgot to measure SG, ran back and it had al...

Re: Anyone use blackberries??

Thanks Caprimulgus, I really like vanilla but I'd never thought of using it. I will defo give that a try. I'm running out of space, neutral, fermenting bins, kilner jars, time....its all consuming but oh so worth it.

Anyone use blackberries??

Hi All I just wondered if anyone had any experience of flavouring neutral with blackberries. The hedgerows are full of them at the moment in the UK. I flavoured some neutral with sloes last year which turned out very very nice (I have managed to keep one bottle stashed to age for a few years hopeful...

Re: All Bran Recipe

Well managed to run this at the weekend. Im only a newby but even compared to the sugar washes I have done this just smelled cleaner, and sweeter. Anyhow cut it down to 40% and left it for ten days on some wood chips. On bottle I have left as is it is, the other litre I'm thinking of adding some map...

Re: strawberry panty-dropper

Just started my first SPD. Used mainly strawberries and a a few rasberries with 2L of neutral at 50%. The fruit is turning white after a couple of hours. My question is do I add the lemon juice now or with the syrup?

Can't wait to try this with my better half!!

Re: Using Heads

Thanks Kiwi

I did read your thread on getting better neutral from one of these stills, maybe I will give it a go in stripping mode.

One more question though, how many washes will I need to strip to get 25l for a spirit run?

More fermenters are on order!!

Re: Using Heads

Thanks Dnderhead So its going to take me quite a while to save up 25L at my current rate of production, which is already a sore point with the other half. It would be easier to store at 80% then when I have enought water down to 40% and run through. Is it okay to store for longer periods at full str...

Re: Sugar Wash-what now?

Marc I ran it through my reflux once and got a really nice neutral, I've only done turbo's neutrals (plus a few fruit washes) and this is ten times better. I even tried a little the day of running it and it wasnt bad. Started another 2 washes yesterday, I want to build up some stocks and as Blanik s...

Hooch

Thanks, its airing out now. I normally drink it with a mixer, and I have a family bash coming up so I think carbon treatment is the way to go. Managed to get hold of an old 3 litre smirnoff bottle so if I take that it should liven up proceedings

Re: Sugar Wash-what now?

Well I've run both washes through, must say it smells alot cleaner than anything I have done with turbo's. got about 2 litres at 85% of each wash.

I know, and have read that this basic wash is much cleaner but do I need to carbon filter or is that not needed?

Re: Sugar Wash-what now?

Well they are both starting to clear a bit know, although both still slowly bubbling. I have measured the SG again and the faster one is now at .990 and bubbling now and again, the other SG is 1 and still bubbling regular. I'm going to wait a few more days for the slow one to catch up and rack off t...
