Re: Low Yield from Stripping Run

Oh I read you loud and clear Punkin! That was a full out run on the hotplate. Thermo read 205. I never turned it down. Drip, drip, drip and no stream. Too small a riser and too little heat, I'm guessing.

Re: Low Yield from Stripping Run

Thanks Gents! The potstill and electric hotplate allows me to be incognito, but I have a pony keg and 2" pipe ready to be soldered. Just have to find an out of the way place to run it. In the meantime, I still pull 150 mL of fores per pot and then strip what I can get, accumulating for a "...

Re: Low Yield from Stripping Run

I have another 3 gallons, but only a 16 qt pot. That 1-1/2" has to be the ticket. I just thought stripping yields (all things considered) would be higher. Guess not.

Low Yield from Stripping Run

Two gallons of sugar wash run at 195 F and the best I can get is 950 mL in 6 hours. I think I figured out my problem. A 3/4" pipe is just too small to allow sufficient vapor pressure/accumulation to rise, travel into the liebig, and recondense in the worm. I'm going to rework this pot and go wi...

Yes Siree, that's where I'm headed! I figured if I do it right the first time, I won't waste time.......time I could be fermenting and such.

I just (hours ago) picked up a minty fresh 1/4 barrel for less $ than a good quality stock pot would run me. Look around (metal recyclers, yard sales, etc.) and get one of these. Mind you, there are some legal issues with these "orphan" kegs since they don't have papers. After all, no one ...
