Re: Food

Heres some things I had saved on my phone from this year. Crab boil, jambalaya, homemade mexican chorizo, BBQ pork butts...chicken thighs...ribs, brick-oven pizza in my smoker and a turkey. http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee493/bigindianbbq/food/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

Re: Slow sugar wash, Help

Sorry to hijack but is the proper PH more important for the yeast or for the conversion of sugars from the starch in the grains?

Re: Slow sugar wash, Help

7G of calcium carbonate into tap water seems to be a bit much to me. I could be wrong though. If this is your 5th generation, are you using any backset from your still or lees from your previous wash? If so, then your wash will start out pretty acidic and 7G of calciumm carb might be perfect. If not...

Re: Secret men's business.

I have no idea what health care is like in Oz. Is it "standardized or social health care?" Do most people have health insurance? Just trying to get an idea of the difference between there and here in the states. I'm good friends with an orthopaedic surgeon from Germany and they have a soci...

Just taken my first testosterone pill and reading the side effects I came across (no pun intended) this one. "painful irreversible erection" Sounds like fun. The girls at the dances will be impressed. blanik Very few, if any, endos in the states will prescribe a hormone pill. It's 1...

Re: Secret men's business.

My buddy was diagnosed with testicular cancer some years ago and ended up having both testicles removed... Considering other health issues he had, an extreme case of guillain barre syndrome for one, the doctors must have assumed that their removal was a non-issue as they didn't think he'd survive v...

Re: Question

Thanks, D! It was still fermenting away when I added the 10# sugar and it's still going now, 2 days later. I just wondered if this was an acceptable way of doing things by adding the sugar. I know very little about yeast..yet. But I wasn's sure if I was stressing the yeast that's in there now by giv...

The taste of corn

Do most people actually prefer the taste of corn in their spirit? I've done a few USJM style washes and the ones heavy on the corn...over 50% corn...I don't like the taste of. At all. I love a heavily wheated mix. Oats taste good as well. I've only drank this stuff young and not aged in wood. Maybe ...

Question

I put up 30# of grains....with enzymes with 30# of sugar and topped up to 30gallons with water. This takes over 2 weeks to ferment out. The yield is lower that I would expect. I've never checked SG but I suppose it's lower than it could be. My questions is this....I just added another 10# of sugar t...

I wouldn't boil the tomato paste....add it to the wash after it cools below 100F. Cooking the paste like that will add an off smell and taste. (speaking from experience)

I trained to be a bodybuilder for many years. I still do but not to that extreme. Every time I dieted down to do a show...less than 5% body fat, I got very sick. EVERY TIME! I also have too many injuries to continue that lifestyle. Anyway, Kronk came from the cartoon character in The Emperors New Gr...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?

Just finished my first all corn run. My corn and brown sugar SG is at 1.0 and still bubbling. Maybe a couple more days and I'll rack to clear and degass. I have the grains bought and milled for a 60% corn, 25% wheat(malted) and 15% rye(malted.) Trying to decide if I want to add sume sugar to the mix...

would using a rubbermaid container cause problems as far as contamination. homebrewing for dummies says white hdpe only. Mash question

Just purchased a 32 gallon rubbermaid brute round container for larger scale ferments. This would fill my boiler twice for a stripping run and give me one single spirit run to do in my 16 gallon beer boiler. Wanting to do a few runs of allgrain for bourbon. How the heck am i going to boil up 30# of ...

Sorry to bring this one back up from last year...just stumbled across it. Mud, have you used Red Star's PC for all grain? There's a huge price difference between 1118 and PC and would love to go on the cheap here.

I'm using a 50# bag of cracked corn from TSC in Nebraska as well. With enzymes, I have no problems at all with it fermenting. Seems like a clean bag....only found a couple short lengths of straw.

Howdy

New to the site and new to distilling. Trying to learn as much as I can before I get started. Looking to ferment grains, fruits, cheap wines, sugar and about anything else. Considering an 8G milk can with a 2" dual purpose tower. I like the idea of using the same rig for pot and reflux methods....
