Maybe I just remember the roar, and forget the dull sound of stripping... Maybe I should start taking notes??

Re: way expired yeast!
I bet some of the buggers are still live and well. chuck 4 or 5 packets into a gallon of wash and see what happens. If the gallon takes off, chuck the gallon into a full sized wash.

Re: hot water heating elements
Both are definitely 240 elements. It's been too long since I ran and I can't remember what the normal heat up time was. I could grab a DMM I suppose and check the resistance. That'd settle my nervousness once and for all. I have another random question though: I tried to make the everlasting gaskets...

Re: hot water heating elements
@ coaster: did the calc years ago. couldn't remember the numbers, just that it worked. @Prairiepiss: Yeah, I was just running water through as a first cleaning run. I think that was the difference. I've got a 1st gen UJSM going now as a second cleaning run and it sounds better :D Going to use the ba...

Re: hot water heating elements
For the record: it's been over a year since I fired it up and there are 2 elements. A 3kw and a 1.5 kw both are hooked up to 120 though, not 240.

hot water heating elements
It's been a while since I fired up my still and just plugged her in to do some cleaning (my new model is finished, so excited!) and my elements seem to not be as "energetic" as before. I am basing this purely on sound though. They used to roar a little like n electric kettle, not they bare...

The copper round bar should work, I just need to anneal it first.

Re: Question on Easy Flanges
I found some 3/16" round copper bar that is about the same diameter as 4 gauge wire. I think. I'll try it though and let you know!

Re: Question on Easy Flanges
Follow up question: I called around to a few stores today and all they have is the twisted wire grounding cable. I asked them where I could find a grounding wire that was just a single wire in gauge 4 and they told me they didn't even know it existed. Are they being ignorant, or is it that rare? If ...

Re: Question on Easy Flanges
I can get them to clamp no problem, just getting a nice seal. The ones I have would take the flour gasket and be fine, but I'd really like to do cork gaskets or the everlasting gasket. It looks classier on my rig (I like the flour gaskets on some of the all copper rigs). I find that they center as I...

Re: Question on Easy Flanges
Yeah, I took a good look at the forum. I'm excited to give it a try! Edit: Sorry I think I misunderstood. The "flare" on the 2 inch triclamp is the same size as the wire so all you need to do is solder the bugger on (uber excited to try it still!). There is no 1" triclamp though, only...

Re: Question on Easy Flanges
It's a 2". I've been able to fabricate some okay 1" flanges too, I'll post pics of the process since I don't think the wire trick will work with them since you need to flare out a half inch. Good to know about the gauges! Now all I have to do is find it...

Question on Easy Flanges
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum, it's changed a bit since I was here last. I have been tinkering with building easy flanges. I haven't had a fantastic amount of luck on my own, but then came here and looked around a bit and think I found an idea that I like, but am not sure if it will wor...

Hello Again!
I haven't posted in over a year. Kinda fell off the wagon I suppose. I spent the last week building the pot still of my dreams, Including triclamp flanges. While my flanges connect, they do a piss poor job of getting anywhere near a proper seal. I came back here and behold!! At least a half dozen in...

Re: Modified Ice Water Pot Still design... suggestions?
I've done the ice water stills and they are not worth it at. A small leiberg will be just as easy to conceal as a stock pot with a while in its side/tubing inserted. Turn that nice big stock pot into a potstill. You will be WAY more satisfied. You'll only wish you had a keg...

Yup, that's exactly it. The first couple of batches oaked really fast (I think my one liter batch is done and it's been a week...) after that it slows down a lot.

Re: aging in 5ltr oak barrel
Just found this thread! I have two 5 liter barrels and a 1 liter barrel. I've used the 5 liter ones a few times and am just trying the 1 liter one now with some UJSM. Thought I'd add what I've found out so far: I tried rum in the 5 liter to start with, and it kills the rum, the new barrels and the l...

Thanks guys, I've had some luck, I posted an ad in usedvictoria, for scrap copper and got enough 1", 3/4", and a couple fittings for $5! Couple more fittings and I'm away to the races. I'll check out the habitat store for fittings . Also wondering if there are any tricks for pulli...

Scrap Yards..
I've been talking to a few tradesmen on a few work sites and no one knows of any scrap yards that sell anything. I was wondering if anyone knew anywhere on Vancouver Island that did? Victoria would be sweet, but I travel enough anywhere on the island would be great!

Does anyone know if there is a torrent for this? I've seen it come up on here a bunch of times, but don't have a TV. Would love to be able to see it though.

Re: Tri-clamp/Tri clover/Sanitary clamps
Mr. Spooky: The issue is that the triclamps for 1" are the same as 1.5". They accomplish this by making the lip on the ferrules wider. I think I might still be able to use them though. It depends how much scrounging I can accomplish ;) Pikluk: I have tried Teflon tape, but it didn't seem t...

I'm still working on my Cu->Cu soldering... I can't see myself trying Cu->SS anytime soon. I also don't have any friends with the kit to do it either. I think I'll go with the unions. Is the connection as strong as the one made with a tri-clamp? Thanks OldDog for the Gin link, I like it! It was esse...

Re: Tri-clamp/Tri clover/Sanitary clamps
Thanks for the responses, I haven't looked into the unions so definitely will, functionality sounds great and the price is right. I have a 15 gallon keg as a boiler and a 2" bok, which is attached using a tri-clamp. I didn't do the easy flange and bought a triclamp-NPT and NPT adapter, which is...

I have done yogurt before, kinda fun, but non-alcoholic. I'm also about to try a ginger beer recipe that was given to me. Ginger beer is more expensive then real beer here so if it works I'll be stoked! I love my dark and stormys.
