field corn mash before mature
Was thinking today about field corn, and the trouble I've had with boiling the corn after grinding to convert, scortching and straining. I've got hundreds of acres of yellow field corn. What if I took the ears at roastin ear stage, cut the corn off them like you would canning corn, and boil it at th...

he's in Colorado not California, and who knows where he gets his bulk solder from.Better safe than dead or mentally ill. If you want to remove the thumper, just unsolder the tubes on the column that contain it, and solder in a solid length, eliminating it and the open ended tubes. I chose to leave m...

Re: stilldrinkin realmccoymoonshinestills rkhelp bluegrassmo
Go to the hardware store and get a lead test kit. If you are happy with how the still looks and want to use it, test it first and that'll give you piece of mind on the lead. Test the pot with a magnet and see if it's stainless. Stainless will not attract a magnet. If the outside of the column is as ...

Take your lemons and make moonshine lemonade,!!! that 's what I did. It took months to get my so called still and junk. I took what was there and remade it into something I could use. And am enjoying the results mixed with Coca Cola tonight. I was so worried that I used a lead test on all the joints...

bakers yeast vs. turbo vs. no yeast
I've read on here how the pros hate turbo yeast. Why is that? I've used both bakers yeast, and turbo. Turbo on sugar wash's and have only ran one corn mash using bakers yeast. I couldn't see much difference if any, although they were on two different type wash/mash. I know corn mash's don't produce ...

Re: Electric versus propane
Depending upon how much you are going to still, That Weck Canner/Pasturizer works fantastic for a 8 gal. wash. The element is underneith built in, so most of the "Cons" that is listed above become nonapplicable. You can run it on full blast from the moment you plug it in with no voltage re...

Re: Electric versus propane
use a Weck Canner/pasturizer. It holds 8gallon and the element is under the stainless pot and has a Stainless lid on the old ones, plastic on the new ones, so you'll have to find a old one. No open flame, and the heat is constant, just plug it in, and turn to high. The mixture will not shoot to 212 ...

Hank Jr. to start selling Popcorn Sutton's shine
Don't know if any of you boys saw this or not, but sounds interesting. I'd like to try some. Sounds like it'll be awhile before it makes widespread availability. I'm sure it won't be exactly like Popcorns shine, but supposidly are going by his recipe, in conjunction with his widow and J@M ent. Here'...

Using well water in fermeter
I've read about people using rain water in their fermenters claiming it's more "alive" than chlorinated water, which has to be true, and would of been closer to what was used years ago. I can't help but think chlorinated water would add a taste from the chlorine. I don't want to use rain w...

Re: cutting likker makes it cloudy??
Well, Tails sounds like it fits the bill, but one run I shut the run down at 60% and it looked the same as the ones I took down into the 40's. I can usually see the tails from the cloudiness when it appears somewhere in the mid 40's and collect the tails down to 40. Being warm does seem to make it c...

cutting likker makes it cloudy??
Had crystal clear likker, cut it down to 40% with tap water or distilled water, tap one time, and distilled the next, and both makes the finished product cloudy. What gives?? one was a sugar wash ,other a corn mash run. I don't get it, why would two crystal clear liquids make something cloudy when c...

Found a new grain straining basket
Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but here goes. Had this in the shed left over from a new sprayer tank purchase for a 220 Spra Coupe ag chemical sprayer. I had never used it and saw it on the shelf and it just hit me STRAINER!! works well for the initial straining, then re-strain with...

Thanks Husker, from what I've read so far, there seems to be a lot of good people on this site. I still haven't read through all the Popcorn Sutton threads yet. That man has facinated me and have enjoyed reading about him on here. Planning on trying UJSSSM recipe someday too. I can see where this ca...

Re: stilldrinkin realmccoymoonshinestills rkhelp bluegrassmoonsh
Why give this THIEF anything???? All plans and support can be found on this site. I would not want to run one of his stills (even if I built it from his plans). They are a farce. It is not just HIS shoddy workmanship that is bad, but it is also terrible designs. That slant tube is a joke. Using a g...

Re: stilldrinkin realmccoymoonshinestills rkhelp bluegrassmoonsh
I will say here that after the initial scam takes place, the phone support has been great. If you are going to buy anything from this guy, do NOT buy a still, buy the plans which are all done by website passwords on his site and build the still yourself. When you buy the plans etc... you get the pho...

finaly got mine, it was so sticky and gooey you could of used it for a fly strip. Soldered crooked, and that joke of a soldering job on the thumper was hillarious. Crooked and soldered at an angle so bad the jar wouldn't even fit on it. he didn't even take the time to remove the price tags from the ...

Re: looking for a simple corn likker recipe
I'm a farmer as well, and would like to see a simple corn/sugar/yeast mash recipe for 5 or 6 gallons. I have ground field corn (yellow corn) non sprouted, just out of the bin. The recipe DBDub posted is about as close to it as I've seen. What is DAP?? and would blackstrap mollasis work instead of dr...
