Re: ultrasonic aging experiment
Yes and no. Yes as in might be if you can not find the resonance frequency of oak in a research paper(still doing more research). Once that is ascertained it's as simple as getting/making something for this frequency range and anyone here could use it. Mainly because most people use oak...but differ...

Re: ultrasonic aging experiment
I know I'm a little late to the party...but going to be doing some tests in regards to the US aging this fall in regards to the proper wavelength for oak. Apparently, according to the russians, there are certain wavelengths that actually resonate with each wood species which in turn would mean using...

Re: Liebig Water Flow Question
Since my move and switching from gas to electric I've finally moved into the new house and ready to get rolling. I'm running a 5500w heating element which I'll run as hard as it'll let me for my pot still for stripping and lower for spirit runs of course. Here comes my question...yesterday I made a...

Re: New Take on a Great Design... ODs Magic Flute - Mark 2.
I must admit I learned a ton of stuff in this thread. The only area of confusion is this pickling of brass. I have never heard of this before. I do a lot of canning and assumed it was placing it in vinegar or something like that. However, later on someone referenced pickling brass to putting it in 2...

Re: New Take on a Great Design... ODs Magic Flute - Mark 2.
Not going to lie... just discovered this thread last night and feel cheated finally getting to the end. It's like missing the last 20 pages of a 200 page book. Did Sam ever finish his flute? If so how were your results running it? OD I'd love to hear more results on your runs. Maybe this was continu...

Where to get containers?
I can go to my local brew shop and get the 1 gallon glass milk jug looking containers($10 each/very expensive). However, I seem to find more and more need to open 1 gallon jars at a RESONABLE price. Have any of you have luck ordering them online? I found a place with resonable prices and wondered if...

Re: Need some impeller/fan help
the flow will be determined by the amount of alcohol and the heat input. so if you start with a 1/8 steam over time it will decrease to the point there is no alcohol left in wash. this happens in both a pot still and a reflux, but a reflux will be more "flat line" that is it stays at one r...

Re: Need some impeller/fan help
The one thing I seem to find is that when doing stripping runs I run my propane burner full bore all the way through. Realize though when doing this I am getting a stream about ½ the size of a pencil coming out during the beginning of the run and ending at about pencil lead size. I know when I have...

Re: Need some impeller/fan help
Ok here is my idea. To date I have only done a total of 8 distillation runs on my pot still(two 30 gallon mashes). 4 Vodka and 4 Rum. On each of those 3 were stripping runs and 1 was a final spirit run. I am currently using a 15.5 gallon keg on my pot still with a propane burner. I however will be...

This also leads me to another question. From looking at MSDS sheets it is my understanding that a neoprene impeller would be ok with cold distillate. Whats all of your thoughts on Neoprene or Nitrile with cold distillate? According to: http://www.cptbelts.com/support/chemicalchart.pdf" onclick=...

I've been talking to my buddy about my whole process of switching to electric and about temperature changing and whatnot when we can up with a either great or stupid idea. Now realize that I run a pot still and temperature seems to be guided by the output flow. We are going to try and make a flow me...

Re: Heat controller Report

It has always been my understanding that you should never have the heated wash touching alcohol for the fear of it leaching toxins into the produc...

Well...a couple of months ago my buddy asked me to be his best man in is wedding. Of course I said yes and it got me thinking. Well a month later I came up with the great idea of doing a Birdwatchers vodka run. I went to the store and got all of the stuff to ferment out a 30 gallon wash. Seeing as I...

Ok so I have about 3.5 gallons of 40%abv stripped vodka run. That means about 14 tablespoons of baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate). There are 16 tablespoons in a cup so I just added 1/2 a cup to be on the safe side. Now my crystal clear 40% stripped vodka is now a light blue color...is this normal? Al...

UJ,
If you ever get around too it I am sure that we would love to her the good the bad and the ugly about what you tried worked and didn't work. Who knows maybe your successes or failures can help others one day. But I do sincerely hope you get a 2nd run on day.

Guarenteed method to prevent spoilage!
Although i'm super new to distilling (doing 1st strip run as I type this) I am very interested in doing whiskey and a lot of grain mashes later on as well as rum. That being said I see that it seems quite often at least people posting have problems with their ferment getting spoiled by an invader. I...
