Re: Greetings from a small island in Norway

That’s cool, Bushman. My little island is not far from Stavanger in western Norway. Btw, Stjørdal is in the middle of the most famous home distiller region in our country 😁 My wife’s cousins along with local farmers actually have a separate building for brewing and malting just outside Stjordal. My...

Re: Stolen copper

Bummer, I put all of my cables and wires from the street to the house underground. When I stripped the copper from the old lines and took it in to sell to the recycle place I had to sign a paper describing where it came from.

Welcome, sounds like you own a little piece of paradise. i too live at a lake and love my view. On your short term goal with rapid aging I have done it with my 1/2 gallon ultra sonic cleaner. It works but doesn’t replace the actual aging process in my mind. I use it from time to time with new recipe...

Re: Just cant get this gin thing right

I have to agree with both the above causes for bitterness, too much pith and going deep into the tails. I use manderine oranges as tangerines are hard to get depending on the season. Have yet to try lemon but I do know the pith is a lot harsher than orange thus removing as much as possible is import...

3D printers have come a long way in the last 15 years since the one I used in the late 1990’s.
Wow 15 years ago, you must be very luck to have that experience.
It was a used one from Nike and back then you really used it basically for concept modeling not for actual parts.

Looks good, I also have a 4” opening in my boiler. It makes it easier to clean. Going electric having a drain port is a bonus, I added mine to the lower side of my keg opposite my electrical outlet. It wasn’t until after I built my. Still that a member came up with the idea to flip it upside down. ...

Good information. I don't know about other places in the world. Re: First time making gin, few question

I would macerate at 45%, your coriander should be 1/2 the amount of the juniper berries. Below are a few proportion recommendations that I use. Recommended proportions x = Juniper berry x/2 = coriander x/10 = angelica cassia, cinnamon, licorice, bitter almond, grains of paradise x/100 = bitter & swe...

Re: Just cant get this gin thing right

I usually remove as much of the pith as possible with a micro plane even though they say with oranges it’s not as necessary. Everyone’s taste buds are different I use a coffee grinder on the botanicals but just give it a quick 2-3 seconds to break it up.

Welcome, although I live in the PNW I have roots in Texas. My mother graduated from Stephen F. Austin in the late 30’s met my dad who was stationed there before being shipped to Europe during WWII. After the war my dad and mom settled in Washington State. I have enjoyed my trips back to Texas but ha...
