Ever think of growing your own herbs? I did a check into a while back. I know wormwood (absinth absinthe) is easy enough to get as seeds or even small cuttings. The second ingredient Roman Wormwood, I found being sold out of a place up in canada, I'd post a link but it's on my laptop which I sent ou...

Reverse engineering a still.
This is kind of an off the wall idea-project that I wish to build and use. From time to time folks have talked about building a "M*A*S*H" type of still out of lab glass. And yes I've thought about it too. But after taking a closer look at how much lab glass is, it's just way way out of the...

I've decided to go ahead and mig this together. Due to some changes in class we're not going to be convering tig at all. Not withstanding, I already have a spool of 308 stainless wire. Just have to get the $$$ together and order the stainless fitting. Thanks all that responded to this thread, Happy ...

Ah, finally had a chance to drag my keg into class. Did a few tests on it, and determined tha the keg is stainless! So, now I'm left with a stainless keg and a copper fitting. Talked to a couple of local plumbing stores (not big box like home depot or lowes), two said they couldn't get a stainless f...

I guess my first step is to determine just exactilly what the keg is made of. As I mentioned in my orginal post, would how easily I can drill through it be a good test of which metal it is? I mentioned that I have a step drill bit, but that will only give me a pile of shavings. Someplace around here...

I would like to convert on of my two beer kegs from propane to electric for winter time distilling. I'm 99.9% sure these kegs are aluminium. I was told some time ago that to weld in the 1" female copper flange that the hot water tank heating element will screw into. It has been suggested to me ...

Yes, the pot and bowl are thick enough to weld to, the handles on the sides of the pot are welded, as is the handle on the lid. I'm actually welding the bowl to the lid. After I've cut away the center part of the lid, then welding the left over ring to the lip of the bowl. Basically I'm creating a l...

Try and keep this short and sweet. A long while ago i mentioned that i picked up a 30qt turkey fryer at Sam's club cheap, becuase it as dented. I also have a large stainless bowl that i wish to attach to the lid. Once i cut a portion of the lid away. Thing is I haven't figured a good way to clamp th...

Naw, this is a 34qt stainless turkey cook pot. Got it as part of a turkey fryer setup at sam's club...dent and ding area, normal price for sam's is about $90, although I've seen simlar set-up at camping places much higher. Ya know the more I think about it, the more I wonder if I really need to have...

Actually I did buy the welder from Home Depot, and I do agree, some of thier folks don't know much. Although in thier defence, unlike most companies they do try to train most of thier staff. But I only bought the unit there, the rest of the stuff I'm buying from a local welding supply house and a to...

Like many others have mentioned before, always thought it would be nice to have a "labratory" style still. So I started doing research on distilling heads, columns, condensors, ect. Now in the sceme of things, this is no where's near the top of my "must do" list, just something I...

Thanks for all the replies folks! Guess I'll wait for the gas then. I may be a newbit to the welding world, but I have done some research, I only asked this question because I'm going nuts waiting for job interviews and training classes to begin. Just wanted something to do with my time. Oh well... ...

Which gas though? One tool store suggests CO2 only, with tank $90. And he only refills if you buy your tank from him. A Welding shop where I got my stainless wire from said $140, but he mentioned something about a three way gas... CO2, Argon, and something else. Book on welding says normal 2 way CO2...

Stainless welding question
I just picked up a stainless turkey fryer setup in my local Sam's club dent and ding area. Big savings, normally this setup was $90, I got it for $25, just because the pot and the stand were slightly bent. This is a nice LARGE pot! 34qts! Only problem is the stainless bowl I wanna attach is just a h...

Ya know how a glass of fresh, cold apple juice tastes??? That's what I want, only with slight kick to it. I WANT apple taste and sweetness, don't like sour at all. Heck with sparkling, not interested. Although, I wonder, since I plan on aging in a keg, if could get away with adding some cinnomin? Jaxx

more cider questions
I guess sometimes things work out for the best. Back in august I inquired about making hard cider. Sadly, Sam's didn't come through for me this year, and didn't carry the apple juice I was talking about for very long. So I never got my hands on any. However, while doing some lite shopping at Jewl, I...

Eventhought this is off topic, the research I've done about aluminium, it would have to get to temps nearly tripple what we use for our purposes to be of any heath concern. Mind you, next time you go to yer local grociery store, take a look in the cooking gadgets isle, why do they sell so many roast...

Phason controller and other heating questions.
I'm building up a small beer keg 7.5 gallon still. Mainly for use to make rum and other pot still goodies. I may even think about having a small reflux for winter distilling as well. Not sure about that bit just yet. I really wanted to have one of those nice stills that I've seen soo many pictures o...

Problems completing my stills
I've been working on my stills for what seems like forever now. At one point I just didn't have the cash to do anything, but now that I can actually afford to complete these projects, I can't find someone to help me! The main problems come with modifying my kegs. I need to have some welding work don...
