Beer kit

Hi Gang: I got a hold of one of these beer kits and cracked it open last night. Just like a wine kit it had 4 gals of wort, water softening chemicals and yeast. Nothing to it, just add water and yeast and off you go. Wort smelled great going in and its churning already. Can't wait to see how it come...

5 Week Beer Kit

Hi Gang: Has anyone tried this type of beer kit from RJ Spagnols? It's like a wine kit, just add water and ferment. No boiling! I'm getting back into all grain brewing and am curious about this type of kit. There is nothing better than homemade, but the wife complains about the smell when I cook up ...

Wine Kit Price Increase....

Hi Gang: I got an e-mail from Northern Brewer that Wineexpert is planning a 20-30% price increase on their wine kits at the end of January. I don't know if this is truth or fiction, but I did check all the usual sources for said kits and found that Norhtern Brewer had some of trhe best prices around...

Right on Uncle Jesse! Nobody fears an armed citizenry more than totalitarian governments. No true're words can be said. In fact, in my neck of the woods, most everyone is usually armed for one reason or another, and there is no local contabulary, only far away state police. By me, you can count on y...

Rum trouble

Hi Guys: I used restaurant grade molasses, it was definitly unsulphured. I was reading somehere that optimum ph for molasses rums was 5.3 to 5.7ph. Could this be the problem? If so how can I raise the base without screwing up the taste of the finished product?...BJJB

Rum Trouble...any suggestions?

Hi Everybody: I decided to try rum using 1 gal molasses, 10# cane sugar, 1 Tbsp Distillers yeast and water to fill 6 gal bucket. It started slow and just fizzled out. 2 weeks later, the mash is sweet smelling, I don't think it went bad, so I pitched 5 gm of EC1118 to jump start the ferment. 2 days l...

Hi Gang: While perusing various brew stores for supplies and such, I saw an interesting device to put oxygen directly in the mash with a stainless steel diffusion device hooked up to a Bernzomatic oxygen cylinder. Hi Gang: I was surfing for bulk supplies and found a place selling Molasses Powder. It claims to be made from molasses and is used as a sweetener by mixing 3/4 powder to 1/4 water.
