Re: Column Made of Crystal

I had the same safety concerns and did some fairly onerous testing, drop tests, over heating, plunge cooling etc etc to see for myself. I'd see the risk as no different to a sight glass...

Re: 3 foot tall 2" copper collumn hybrid pot still
Hi, I've been running a pot hyrid for a few years now. Single run for flavour, lower costs and time use, good flow rate about 2lt/hr with starting abv's in 90's temp corrected. I tried several coils and setups before settling on a very basic design which like most simple things, works best. All coil...

Re: First ferment finished.....
Hello, that's one big brew you got. Yep your right start with reduced amount of paste say 1/3 then add 1/3 x2 after a couple of days seems to work well and ferments evenly. Too much to start with plays with ph/yeast I've found and ferment goes balistic then dies from lack of nutient. two weeks is a ...

hi, it's that last line 5 weeks of sitting around that's got me thinking...did you notice any mold/ white strings sitting on top of the mash? Most rack for a few days not 5 weeks...dpending on avg temps could be your issue. once that mold stuff starts it does dramtically alter taste. From past exper...

Re: Airing Out....
I'm ok with my process and how i cut it as such it just produces a better flavour I reckon.
I don't need to air it as long as i do i guess but i just prefer it that way.
Ever tried longer airing periods...you might just be surprised.
cheers

hi, I single run a pot hybrid 2" on a 50lt keg most weekends during summer. I started with pint glasses to id various cuts but its come to a much simpler process the past year or so. I throw a good .75lt out for heads/nasties/taste prefs then place a 5lt mason jar for hearts collection. I run i...

Hi, I air a UJSSM corn/low vol rye for about 4 days. A pure rye for a week. Both in mason jars. I also give a stir each day. The airing takes the edge off nicely, with the nasties that "tingle" the nose well gone in a week. I top off mason jars with coffee filters and leave lid off for a f...

Bloke, Chips are expensive and add far less flavour and notably colour imho than your own charred white oak strips. Might be worth spending some time developing your own char profile you like. True you can over do it but a few test jars scaled down with varying degrees of chars will soon sort it out...
