Re: 110 Volt Electric Controller Help

Thanks prairiepiss , I appreciate your reply. The unit is a double reducer reflux column that has a 36" packable 2" column. I am resigned to trying this column on a 110 volt circuit and if I have to I will modify it to operate 220 1ph. Running this column on propane takes little heat once ...

110 Volt Electric Controller Help

I would be grateful for some advise regarding a 110 volt electric controller build. My intent / hope is to operate a pony keg on a 15 amp circuit. I realize that warm up may be slow... I have on hand a PSR-25 with a pot and heat sink and other basic material for this build. The 220v 1ph schematic I ...

Re: Double Reducer

Rad, thank you for your input! I did calculate (parent site) the condenser being over sized before I wound it. Beyond my need to build everything “overkill” my over-sizing is a consideration of using less water (gpm) thru the condenser to achieve the needed knock down. The condenser water will (at l...

Double Reducer

I just thought to show progress on my second still build. The pictures pretty much tell the story............... the rest I will try to describe. Construction: 2” diameter column with a 1.25” X 3.25" long throat between the reducers. The condensate overflow tube is 3/8" diameter. The top r...

DY I would like to say well done! I like the inovation and the craftmanship. I'm also intriqued by Rad's combo still and am currently working on a double R boka in 2 X 1.25" I hope that you post some operational statistics of your still in the entended mode. Thanks for taking the time to post. ...

Re: My New Small Scale Combo Still

I have enjoyed this thread and am on the front side of building this basic design and look forward to seeing how she will run. I have gathered & cut material for a 2" column using 2" X 1.25" reducing bushings. My intent is to minimize the distance between the the couplers.......sh...

Re: New POT STILL

Hey Rowdy, An old fitters trick is to heat the fitting you want to clean and when the solder is hot enough to run wipe the fitting with a dry rag. You can wipe the solder right off. There will still be the residual thin layer of solder in the sanding scratches of the original prep but this can be po...

Re: My Boka

I had decided to gain some experience with my new Boka build before doing any posting on its operation. I now have the experience of nearly two hundred gallons of Wino’s wash under my belt and the following text is my thoughts on what I believe I have learned; The wash: ferment process seems easier ...

Take Off Rates & ABV??

I thought it might be interesting to see comments on "Take off rates and ABV" So folks what are your experiences with your particular design? Also what are your preferences as to stillin time verses ABV? I did my first product run yesterday (I will post results tonight) and I found that in...

Hey Guys, Thanks for the support and positive words. The resource of this forum has allowed this newbie to pick a straight line to success. I will do a spirit run this weekend and post results. I would also like to document the rate this unit will strip, got a feeling it will strip pretty quick, I w...

Re: My Boka Updates

I was finally able to test my new unit, and I am happy to report that I was pleased with its performance in a stripping mode. I stripped 80L of sugar wash and experienced no problems. My #1 concern was with the possibility of the condenser shell sweating alcohol being that the condenser is a slip fi...

My first ferments and their success! My choices were Rad's “All Bran” (I used Total cereal) and also Wino's sugar wash. I would like to add to the long list of thank you's for the effort put into these “Tried & True” recipes. I followed the instructions and got the results,..... very encouraging...

Re: Help With Pot still Ideas

Guys, thank you for the input, puts me another rung up the ladder. Sixfooter, interesting idea to be able to adjust lyne arm height.............hmmm Rubber Duck, so, the product discharge thru a 3/4” tube? So would a cooling jacket over the 3/4” tube of say 1 1/4” diameter be appropriate? I am think...

Help With Pot still Ideas

Even though I am still in the process of getting my reflux column running, I would like to start laying out a Pot Still head and lyne arm for my milk can. Great Pot Still

aaa.jpg The cool factor for this still is through the roof! HD member "Rednose" had posted this photo to another thread. In order to get a higher abv in a single pass, couldn't the top of the vapor path be quenched to generate some reflux? This still would lend itself to that by placing a...

Rad, my collection reservoir will hold 100 ml to the bottom of my proposed new drain holes. I do have some ideas for some potential design flaws? I really like the utility of the "Car Rim Burner" brilliant idea. I am at the point of trying to figure out a natural gas burner assembly to work off of. I wonder if they can't be improved with larger air holes to better scavange fresh air to the burner ring? Both of those set up's shown, ...

Boka Design Question

Does anybody have experience with this attached design? My question relates to the overflow of this design. It would seem that if the condenser shell was a slip fit to the reducer, that un-soldered joint would be a source of leaks? This design shows the top of the column (overflow) above the top edg...
