Re: Pot still with long stainless shotgun
Been working on it in my spare time... making two units for now....here it goes so far. First i used CNC plasma cutter to cut my plates Unwelded.jpg Realized my inner pattern was a bit tight for water flow into center, so i plugged a center hole. also decided to plug two on the outer rim so my fitti...

Re: Propane burner starting efficiency
VAChem - Yes, I agree with you on everything you said. I realize that the method i am using to heat my still is inefficient - no insulation ect ect... but rather than approach a theoretic exactness while i run my still, i just want some ball park numbers what its taking me to run. using a perfect th...

Re: Pot still with long stainless shotgun
for a 3" shotgun the length will be dependent on how long my column is. ideally i would collect 8-10 inches shorter than my column. i was just thinking that if the area was 4 times greater (going from 3" to 6") then could my length be 4 times shorter (going 18" to 6" er... t...

Re: Pot still with long stainless shotgun
i know what you mean about the angle. i just like it vertical, compact, not sticking out for me to bump... as for air-lock deal... half inch tubes probably will have no issue with this, i would have to be pumping lots of vapor through for 8-10 1/2" tubes to plug, but could always have a little ...

Re: Pot still with long stainless shotgun
I'll be doing propane also. I already have a keg with 3", got tired of two tortilla seals on the reducer. Only reason I don't like the angle in the Liebig or long Lyne arm is for compact storage. What is your reasoning for shotgun at 45? More room for shotgun? I thought about making the head ha...

Propane burner starting efficiency
Hello all, doing a bit of research for a project. with my newly built 3" bok on a 15.5gal stainless keg i am heating with a propane burner. i have the propane tank suspended by a load cell and i am recording weight of propane used every little while. i am collecting lots of data, but right now ...

Re: First Double Coil Condenser
drinktofabfabtodrink - With the 3" column, you have lot of space to fill with the coil. I'd consider one of the following... 1. Try packing your existing coil with copper mesh... it may do the trick for you. 2. Consider a double wound coil with a cold finger. Also, if you have the room, build ...

Re: First Double Coil Condenser
Just wondering about the packing in the condensing coil - recently finished a 3" Bok and was running it yesterday with a mash for the first time. not using packing up the column because i was going for some flavor. everything went well until my hearts with the alcohol at ~40%. then vapor kept w...

Re: BOK column keg connection, 2in vs 3in
in my BOK i had this idea of making a cage type tube full of scrubbers that i could remove for cleaning and when i dont want to use them. if i only have a 2" hole through my adapter but 3" pipe, will it matter there is gap around the outside? will vapor just go around more or will most sti...

BOK column keg connection, 2in vs 3in
Hey all, have a 3" copper pipe for my BOK. was planning on using a reducer (2 in to 3 in) to go from a keg to my column. i have the reducer already, and i also have a 3" weldable ferrule. is it worth cutting the keg and welding the 3" ferrule or is the reducer worth using. i know ther...

Re: what do you think of this cooling idea....?
I agree that it is overkill... could probably get away with just a coil cooled by air. just thought it would be cool... my previous idea had same tube but with a coil going through, but wanted to avoid copper and stainless soldering. not sure about only one tube getting used. most likely that will b...

Re: what do you think of this cooling idea....?
I knew there would be a name for it. thanks for the lead on searching. i know its not the most simple, but with stainless i cant crank it out in a few hours max... unless i get fancy with the DRO on the mill and put the holes all perfect and such... only have to build it once!

Re: Need some HELP understanding this design...
now that you mention it the tee could very well be for doing large stripping runs or continuous runs. later designs by the same company had a set up for doing multiple pot set up where the fluid was pushed in there by several other tanks, it would be sensible that the new mash brought in would come ...

Re: Need some HELP understanding this design...
majority of the work on this still was done with TIG welding - yeah, TIG welded copper - the only things that are soldered are pipes that protrude inside, which are soldered, and a lead test was done and seems to be all good.

so is there a good reason for the tee on the coil that is outside the pot? should it just be plugged?

Hey all, Friend came across a still that was built in the early 70's? Centrifugal spinner idea
Hey all, last time I made a whole mess of brandy I was fighting the separation of solids and liquids, the apples had turned into an apple sauce mush. So I stumbled on a drum of HFCS...
So I got a 55 gallon drum of HFCS for free the other day... It's "Liquidose 444 HFCS" and it is extremely thick! I have never played with it before, but I started messing around with it. I started off getting a small sample and disolved it in water. I recorded that i used 200g of HFCS and ...
