Re: Water Pump for a 3" Boka Still
Would there be too much pressure through the 3/8" copper condenser? or at the pump end and damage either? using the 750W? What kind of rate of flow and I aiming for? It seems all the pumps you are talking are all centrifugal style. You generaly cant hurt this style of pump by resticting the fl...

Re: 2" Boka keg build NZ style
Hey,
This is pretty much exactly what mine will be like although mines 3".
50L Keg but have a 2200W heating element. Instead of needle valve I've got a Ball Valve. My condenser 200mm, 100mm for the plates/thermometer and 1700mm for the column. I scored a free 2000mm 3" copper pipe

Re: Water Pump for a 3" Boka Still
you can push a lot of water through 3/8 tube with not much back pressure a 250 mm single coil of 3/8 knocks that 2200 with ease that i was using for a while i also have a double 3/8 in a 3" and it has no problems get a pump that will push to say 4 or 5m head height as flow rates drop as head i...

Re: Water Pump for a 3" Boka Still
I don't have a boka. I run a cm 3" PSII. But from my experience, pump height ability is probably what you should be looking at, not so much the volume. A pump might be able to push alot of water volume at level or down hill, but if it doesn't have the (torque?) to push it up to the top of your...

Water Pump for a 3" Boka Still
Hi guys, I'm slowly finishing off my 3" Boka still. It'll have a 200mm double wound condenser using 3/8" tubing and the total length of the column including condenser is 2m. I have a 50L S/S keg with the spear taken out & a 2200W S/S heating element. So the question is, what flow rate ...

Condenser for 3" LM
Hi, So I've had the Air Still for quite some time and been happy with the results. Been reading many threads and trying different recipes. Now it is time to build myself a LM. I'm thinking I'll go with a 3" diameter 60" height LM. Thought If i'm building one I might as well build something...

Awesome write up
I just need the pictures now
I want to build my own boka with a 3" width and 150cm column. Although I don't quite understand the plates yet. Will do more research.

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
It has sat around 25-30 degrees. (currently at about 29 **at night**) Unfortunately I don't have a gravity meter at the moment :/ What could possibly have gone wrong though, I dont see there being too much of a problem. One thing I should ask is does everyone mix the yeast in upon addition? and sho...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
Cheers thanks sidewinder. Because I couldnt get a hold of the gypsum and DAP I decided to run the all bran recipe today (this is my first fermentation) Got ripped buying dextrose from the brew shop too. $49 for 25kg, I was stupidly blind. Plane sugar was much cheaper when I went to the supermarket ...

I have a question, Im from the Central coast of NSW, Australia and have calles my 2 local brew shops. None had even heard of DAP. Am I looking for DAP (damonium phosphate) by itself or what should I be buying. Where should I find it? Also the same with gypsum, should I go to a plant store and but t...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
If it gets down to 1.000 then you should be fine. Different people report getting anywhere between .990 and 1.000 for a finished sugar wash, it just depends on the recipe you yourself use. The fact that yours seems to have stopped at 1.000 may be due to the yeast you have used. Not necessarily a ba...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
I think my wash may have stalled. I've got a 80L wash with 13.5kg sugar (aiming for 10% abv). It's been going for 2weeks now, the temperature is 28-30c. It's sitting on 1.000 now. I don't get any bubbles from airlock. I've tried stirring the wash, added 1tsp dap & 1/4cup dried yeast... still has...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
I found on this wash if i leave out the citric acid my start Ph is round about the 6.1- 6.3 ph mark this is quite high and i would not go higher , BUT it will finish on the 3.3 mark at .998 every time in 5-6 days , so im quite happy with a higher start Ph .... If your wash gets too Acidic or Alkali...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
Finally got pH strips to test my Wash. I've got a reading of ~3.5. The wash is done.. its sat around 2+weeks (got to .993) because I had a 25L Birdwatchers waiting to be run. It smelt rather strong so I thought maybe the wash is too acidity but 3.5 is a low result right? anything from with having to...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
Can anyone help me quickly? I don't have any test strips to check my pH level. If the Wash has too low or too high pH level will this affect the taste of the alcohol after distilled? (I know it affects the speed & the Wash can get stuck etc) The wash has been going for over 1week now and it's hi...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
I've got a 80L wash going at the moment.
I was just wondering how I'd check the pH level?
My local brew store sells pH papers which range from 2.8-4.6, I thought I was looking for ~5?
What should the pH level be?

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
Sidewinder, The temp scale on my aquarium heater is not very accurate. I think you will have to monkey with the temp adjustment and a good thermometer to get right temperature. DocDave Ah k thanks. I think mine won't be accurate... it only costed me $14 lol. My Wash is sitting on 26C at the moment....

Hi all,
I just bought a cheap Aquarium heater aswell ($14 including shipping).
Just wondering what the ideal temperature setting would be for the wash? My heater goes from 20-34*C.

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
I've started my 80L WPOSW. Sprinkled the yeast at 36*C. It was getting to late to wait until 35*. I left the Airlock off for the night and the following morning I decided to chuck it on. It's slowly bubbling, not hugely like my Birdwatchers or AllBran had. It also doesn't have the Foam like the othe...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash
Seems like a lot of yeast to me, but I always seem to use less that most folk do. I reckon that I'd use about half that or even less maybe. Ok. Recon maybe 1 cup? I can always add if need be. I'm in no rush for this to finish. I have waited 2weeks for fermentation for BW's and now waiting 1week to ...

Hi, I'm new to this. and this may sound like a really really stupid question. I've done a stripping run, watered down to 40% and bottled for now. If I add BiCarb Soda to my low wines. and don't end up doing a spirit run... is it drinkable? or does the bicarb give a off taste? I pot stilled (i...

Guten tag, Get yourself a hygrometer to check SG at start, during and at the end. This is important. A pinch of epsom salts just helps the process. Good luck.
