Re: Cigars - what are you smoking

I stopped smoking twice. First about 30 years ago. Then my son started about 10 years ago and I had to teach him. In 2022 end of May it quit again. I so envey you, smoking is an absolute joy.. A good cigar and a fruity pipe. But I am past that, sad... Enjoy!

My experience is oats and wheat as part of a grain bill add effort to any filtering. It forms a slime that hamper filtration, at least through geotextile fabric.

Re: First time using Plates, question about PRV

All in, it comes down to the fact that I wasn't 100% sure what I was doing and I wanted to play it safe. So Element 1 is the lower element, it is the element that is always on, element 2 is the higher element. I set the elements up so that I can fairly evenly heat the keg without interfering with e...

Re: Does the height of the bubble caps matters?

The height of the riser inside tje caps, the height of the slots in the caps and the height of the downcomer above the plate and the height of the vapour lock on the downcomer is important. The vapour path between the cap and riser and slots should be as close to equal so pressure does not build up....

Re: Why CCVM?

Bolverk In your opening post, you preferred a CM over a CCVM. Have you used a CM with a tall column to produce neutral with approx. 96 %abv? I have tried it and found it difficult to operate. No, I'm not a neutral guy... if a ccvm is better for neutral then that certainly a reason to go in that dir...

Without reading all. Plus on this. You keep your CM and VM.... I will not call out LM... Cause it has its own CCLM.

A reflux head has a job. A CCVM does it like any other. If you don't believe me fill in the rest.....

Re: Controls

At minimum you will need an isolater to break power to the controler. And something to protect against power leakage. In my woods we call it earthleakage breaker. I find that an amp reader helps to have a ballpark start for spirit runs but it is not essential.

Knee surgery in one week. They're just going to shave down cartilage where it's torn so it doesn't rub. In the short term, it's fixed, but the loss of cartilage makes it more likely to need a knee replacement in a decade or so. Been there, done that and it was worth it. Another 3 weeks and I'll hav...

Get a power controller. Stick to one, either LM or VM.

There is a lot of benefits in LM, in fact I think LM has more benefits than VM. But I would go for VM.

I agree that perfs and caps need different energy inputs. Yummy is correct if you can manage the perfs the caps should operate as well. If you want to run them together place the perfs on the bottom. The plates will load from the top to bottom so the perfs will be last to load. Try running the perfs...

Re: What can I expect with 10 plates?

For me plates carry flavour rather well. The liquid bath on a plate traps flavours/esters while washing the alchohol of tails down and the alchohol of heads up. To me the product on a 10 plate flute will have more flavour than the product from a packed column with equivalent HEPT. But again a sugar ...

Bit late but. An onion is a space that creates demisting. It is where heavier or higher alcholhols will drop from vapour. To me it is not passive reflux because it is not per chance but designed. How much it happens on a hobby scale onion I can not say. I would not bother with 2 plates. I run 5 plat...
