Re: corny keg lid options
Sorry Jake, I think I got off topic. I pulled the fittings and put some threaded rod in place. soldered a 5 or 6 inch pan to a copper fitting. 2 inch pipe has a strut clamped to it and i slide threaded rod through the strut, washers and wing nuts to clamp it down. Would be nice if I could just have...

Re: corny keg lid options
My boiler used to be an 80gal soda syrup keg, i cut it down to 20gal. the lids are the same as a regular corny, i cut a hole in mine & welded a coupling on & made a ptfe gasket. i use a 2" copper reducer to connect my collumn, slip joint. What size coupling did you get to fit in there,...

Anybody convert a corny lid to a 2" fitting without welding the lid to the top?

Re: phase angle controller
thanks guys, I was just wondering if a plumbing shop would have something that could be adapted, but it seems I will source the parts out and build it myself

Re: phase angle controller
so for under $50 I could build all the controls and just need to add power cord and element? I get a real good deal at a local plumbing source which is why I was wondering if there were a controller for a boiler or something I could use.

phase angle controller
Been researching the builds on these, can these be purchased from plumbing supply houses ready to go? Also I have an old kiln with a controller on it, would that be what I am looking for? Looking to use a heating element in a keg, probably 5500w.

Re: Bokakob 2" mini-still column
those were the 2 pics that confuse me. the first post here looks to be a little less than a half circle with the cut out longer, the other post looks like a half circle with slits cut into the half circle. edit Just realized if I cut it smaller the plate would not make it to the stop cuts in the pipe.

Re: Bokakob 2" mini-still column
Quick question on the bottom plate, on the template there are 2 lines for the size. Do I cut it full size and notch out the drip or cut it down to the smaller size leaving the drip?

Re: Bokakob 2" mini-still column
Thanks, that was my original plan, when reading through these forums somewhere I got redirected to a nice build where it seemed to be a one piece 50" or so column.

Re: Bokakob 2" mini-still column
Getting ready to build, and maybe have took in too much all at once. Do I build my boka 12" and attach it to a column or leave it full length?

how long will it keep
If I was to try making some apple pie flavored with 120 proof sweet feed, how long would it keep or does it need to be refrigerated? I been searching for quite some time and haven't been able to dig it up.

Re: sweetfeed whisky
Don't feel bad Jake. Your not the only person who's made the mistake of using too much backset. Just a suggestion. Next time don't use any backset but reuse the lees from the bottom of the fermenter. This works especially well if the original ferment was less than 10 or 12%. I did reuse the lees an...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
I have been running this recipe for a few weeks now, guess I got a little greedy and tried to make an all backset wash. Been close to 18 hours and no bubbles to speak of yet. Should I just discard the 10 gallons I have trying to ferment and start over? Your pH is too low. You might could salvage it...

Ok, quick question then. If making just whiskey with this rig, should I go back to the original configuration to get the higher alcohol content and dilute it more or run in pot mode and possibly have to run it twice or just dilute it less? just wondering i guess...

Re: internal reflux still
Using the same sweet feed recipe but with backset this time I am getting a much lower abv%. I bypassed the column for the water intake straight Into the lower condenser. My first run I was getting 80% now I'm down to 55-60%?

Re: internal reflux still
I could easily move the shut off to the top to hold pressure, but would I need it if running as a pot still?halfbaked wrote:The cut off valve should be on top and your colder water should come in the bottom side. The cut off valve will help hold water pressure in the shotgun.

Re: internal reflux still
No doesn't sound right. It's explained much better in the mod thread. You want the two condensers separate. The product condenser needs to ne fed in through the bottom and out the top. The top through tube needs its own feed in and out. With a valve to control how much flow goes through it. You don...

Re: internal reflux still
I would do it as I described. Took me a bit to process but this is how I'm reading it. I could run the water in though the bottom of condenser and out the existing piping on top after I bypass the column on the bottom. Then after some manifold building the water would start at the top outside the c...

Re: internal reflux still
You can use it as it sits. And make a good drop with it. But its not gona make a neutral. Now you want to make a variety of stuff. Doesn't tell me what? If all you are after is flavored drinks like whiskey rum or brandies. I would remove the lower through tube. You could do this by just cutting it ...

internal reflux still
From what I have been reading this still should have some modifications done to it to make it more efficient. I did not build this, but it did not cost me anything either. Would be making a variety of beverages with it. Would bypassing the lower cooling tube around the column be a fix for it?
