Re: Its a known fact

Yea boys my beards a little on the wiry side. Dont notice it much anymore as ive got some pretty thick calluses on my hand from strokin it while deep in thought. Did have a little run in with the law a few years back. Them bastards arrested my beard for assault after my ex had to get 17 stiches in h...

Re: aeration of mash

Just a sip has a point. If your using tap water to top off your wash its already being aerated as it comes from the tap and goes into the fermenter. You know those little screens in your faucet? Those are called aeraters. If using a hose or such just making a good splash as you put the water in the ...

Re: Infecting a wash

A little more i just thought of. That soured malt process will most likely yield lacto baccilius( wrong spelling aint gonna look it up right now) which i assume ur after. Could end up with other bugs you never know. Careful doing this though. Generally bugs are something you DONT want in the brewing...

Re: Infecting a wash

You can buy cultured bugs. Wyeast smack pack full of em. Other than that id do a low SG wash and ferment on the hot side. Leave the ferment open in a dusty room. Sure, throw some moldy bread in there. Wipe ur ball sweat and dunk ur hand in the wash. Mmmm....... No seriously, take some barely malt an...

No experience with turbos. But i have had problems in the past with excessive acetone production caused by fermenting too hot and/or leaving a finished wash sitting in a very hot enviroment for too long. Ill leave it at that.

Re: Electric Heater

Id say your biggest problem beside the slow warm up is that since the element is not touching the bottom of the can its gonna burn that element up in a hurry. The way those elements work you have to have the pot resting directly on top to act as a heat sink. Draw the heat away from the coil. Otherwi...

Re: 50 gallon ferment with an aquarium heater

It'll work man. Just make sure your heater is sized for an aquarium equivilant to the size of your ferment and has a built in thermostat as you already said it did. If the heater is designed for a 25 gallon aquarium just use two. Remember heat rises so place it toward the bottom but not so deep that...

Stainless Steel! It's fairly cheap, you know - not a whole lot more than the same amount of mild steel - you would probably get off with car exhaust low-grade stainless in fact. I'm not gonna come out and say for sure that the lower grades of SS won't work for stilling purposes because I'm not a me...

boda getta, I understand completely the desire of someone new to distilling(i despise the term "noob") to want to monitor vapour temp and ABV during the first few runs on a potstill. But you did not explain how a parrot made the process "easier". You say you already had a glass test jar and a hydrom...

IMO it's not really needed for a potstill. I built one awhile back just for fun and gave it to a buddy after one run with it. About as useful as a thermometer to me. I only use a hydro for exact dilution or checking how close I am at reading the bead.

Geez guys, he said he wanted it to double as a brewing kettle. Give him a break.
