Re: Legalization now
Those damn laws are from an ancient time. What happened to US, happened also to Canada, and that's crap. They're spending millions in "education" against drink and drive but there are still many people driving drunk. They get arrested and nothing, they are free to kill. They can not make i...

Welcome ! I'm one of those that thinks "Off the grid! Yeah!" Then realize I'd be dead within the week. It's just that you need a time to adapt yourself. Off grid is nothing, without water is another thing. When you do not have running water you realize that modern way of life is wasting lo...

Depending on how the motor is wired, you could rewire it to single phase but it's not the best at all. If you have around 150$, grab a VFD controller. It's a variable frequency driver. You'll be able to run on 3 phases and control speed of your motor. Check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOxNjsuUrZ...

Never thought about an alcohol lamp. I've been using flat cotton 'disks' from Target with isopropyl alcohol to clean my flask, jug, ss funnel (won't use plastic cuz it scratches) and airlock. Been looking for a PC fan to make a stir plate... I wasn't talking about cleaning the instruments with a fl...

Nice but I don't get the point of the brass part in the middle as you have stainless TC fittings all the way from the cover. You will hear is often here: make sure it's lead free brass ! I guess the paper with slanted cuts is a mockup :) For stainless parts and fittings there are a few sources on al...

I harvest some yeast from slurry, and wash it, but I would not go further than 5th generation. Well, I never tried either, but looks like yeast might change profile as I heard. Twisted Brick at 8th generation if you do not taste changes, you're good :) I had so many 1st and 2nd generations that I di...

Re: Starting up a 'yeast' bank - how?
You have many ways to save yeast. I used to have them dried or freezed depending what I wanted to do. I stopped brewing a bit but still have the bank in the freezer. Dry to swap by mail, freeze to store them longer. For doing this, I washed yeast and then put them in slant tubes, in a lunch box with...

If your led display goes out just on a side and viewing the sticker, it's inside the meter. The SSR would diffuse the heat and if it could heat that much, you would have more troubles inside the box. Your meter might me dying, or as suggested by Johnnywhiskey , you're not powering it the good way. I...

Re: 4.5’ bokakob build
Do not rely on temperature :) Well, you can get a table of temperatures for the different phases, but they've got to be adapted to the pressure/altitude at the time you distill. Best is to feel it. You can start your still, with full reflux and the valve open. When you first see something coming out...

Re: 6" Ferrule to Side of Barrel?
You're surely have to grind it yourself.
But cutting the curve of a 55G barrel into a ferrule could be tricky.
I'd say cut a round into the barrel, fit the ferrule inside and weld it.
After that you'll decide if you want to grind the ferrule from the inside.

We are not talking about cathodic tubes, or more generally electronic tubes which work on the same principle and need high DC voltages that can be lethal because of the energy stored by inductors and capacitors needed to filter the current ripple. Chances are GF breaker will not trip if you get shoc...

Most of the house main breakers with a ground fault sensing were 20mA in EU. So what ? So.. when you have this on your main entry you are protected everywhere in your house. It was just a remark. Electricity in US/CAN seems ages away from EU. Not quite sure what you are saying here - but 5 mA is ab...

What refrigerants did you use? What was the envisioned temperature at the second compressor stage? Do you have suggestions as to what refrigerant should be used in the setup i proposed? On top of my head it was R410a and R22. I was not the one who played with the gases. I was interested in understa...

200mA will kill you stone dead ! Like a forgotten sausage on BBQ :) You can not really measure your body resistance with a 10$ multimeter, but you can try. at 20mA, your thoracic cage will tetanize at 30mA you'll have hard time breathing if any at 40mA your heart will fibrilate but you can survive ...

I studied a bit heat transfer when I was working on new types of wells for heat pumps, and we had a 2 stages heat pump, I mean 2 chained compressors using 2 different gases. It was a real pain to setup but worked well and finally the wells were so efficient that earth was not able to provide enough ...

For the element, I bought this : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2WI65Y
It's 2" triclamp and protected wire connection, not bad for the price.
Best is to have a triclamp welded to the keg.

3/8 ID is 1/2 OD so I don't think 5 won't fit in a 1-1/2 unless you have a 20 ton press to make them slide in
