Re: What is your 9 to 5??

Since several mentioned being retired, what age did you retire at, or if still working, what age do you intend to retire at? Me, I'm 59, don't see retirement in sight for another 10 years or so, unless the good Lord has other plans, (and here lately he might just be hinting that he does.)

Yeah, I know its old, but so am I... While waiting for a flight, a Texan found himself sitting at a bar next to a Frenchman at an international airport. The Texan became more and more irritated by the Frenchman's bragging of his sexual exploits to the young woman sitting next to him. Finally he coul...

Re: A heat Laser gun

Bushman, Yes, I have. I use 55 gallon plastic barrels in which to ferment. Reviewing the notes on the last ferment I found there was some but little difference. On the 21st at 7:30 p.m. the difference was 91 vs. 93 degrees. Air temp was 81 degrees. On the 22nd at 8:40 p.m the difference was 83 vs 85...

Re: Jokes

Early one morning a 911 operator received a call with a very worried male voice on the other end. "I'm deer hunting and my buddy just fall 30 feet out of his deer stand and I think he's dead!" The operator tried to calm the caller and told him to make sure his buddy was really dead. She wa...

Re: 94 yo "former" moonshiner

I have a tape that was given to me about 10 years ago that was about 15 years old of the giver's grandfather who had actually spent time for moonshining. It was given to me for the recipe, (but was incomplete). I found the old man's tales of life in the early part of the last century from coal camps...

Kentucky cops are hard on DUIs. Therefore I always try to buy the most expensive bourbon I can find. That way I can't afford enough to get drunk.

I like this one: Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select (90.4 Proof/$35) "Everything that's old is new again" should be Woodford's motto. Louisville's own wine-and-spirits giant, Brown-Forman rescued the old Labrot & Graham distillery in Millville, and installed copper pot stills shipped ...

How cheap can you personally remember gas being in days gone past? I remember when in my part of Kentucky it was 37.9 cents, how about you?

I am ashamed to admit that I plum forgot about the memorial service on the 24th. (Bad me, Bad me) I was told by a Tennessee police type that it went off and that Hank Williams, Jr. stopped by. Don't know if he was talking first hand or just repeating rumors. Anyone from here go?

Lately I have been digging around in the garage and have almost dug out that '59 chevy that I meant to restore 4 or 5 years ago when I parked it in there and before it became a shelf for everything else. Seems to me that my interest waxes and wanes on a seasonal basis with the fall being the hardest...

Re: Steam heating for a copper pot still?

In a way, anyone with a thumper is doing a steam heat. After all, it is the vapor from the still that is heating the mash/low wines in the thumper. A simple experimentation would be to add a second thumper and use your still as the boiler with water in it and your raw mash in the first thumper.

If watering down your drink doesn't do it for you, start anew. Break down your still and clean everything with baking soda and a good brush. Make your new mash a sweet mash run, no backsets on this run. Record everything, ingredients, temperatures, times, your thoughts. That way you can analysis eve...
