Re: So, Am I Crazy? check this Boka

I must admit, as someone who over thinks projects all the time, I encourage you to build something simple first. It takes one to know one! I find myself doing this pretty often. With stilling more than many hobbies, it's easy to go overboard. With about $200 in metal and maybe a week of evenings bui...

Re: "Lead Free" Brass needle valves?

OP: although I'm guessing you've already made your decision on a needle valve, I've just recently gone through this on my boka. My hardware store bought 3/8" needle valve really does NOT have enough fine adjustment to run efficiently. That's with 7 gallons of 40% low wines running at around 750...

Re: New build, I have 2", 3", and 4" -- decisions, decision

I've had Reverse liquid management on my mind recently. I think my next project will be a rebuild of my Bok with a precision needle valve and piped for RLM. Maybe look into that!

Re: What can I use for calcium carbonate

You want your ferments to start closer to 5 or so, which means you want to add acid, not a base like baking soda. Lemons work great...

Re: Bunk! Choir Boy scrubbers....

If they pass the magnet test and are not rusting, they area probably stainless steel coated with copper (Which they did). The copper has eroded off the steal in places but should be "Pure Copper" (at least the plating is probably "pure copper"). So the question is Is the two gal...

Re: Uncle Remus Rice Vodka

How's the conversion? Do you think malting is enough to convert a large amount of the starches to sugars?

Re: Uncle Remus Rice Vodka

Hey all, just read through this whole post, and am really fired up about trying a rice/barley vodka. I may approach it slightly differently though. I don't mind the flavor that malt adds, so this is what I've worked up. So, the ingredients I have are 6-row (high enzyme) malted barley, white rice, an...

Re: Juniper Yeast experiment

Woodshed, you've gotten me so interested in this! I'm right next door in Durango, and I'm dying to give this a try. I love finding ways to instill a sense of origin in the spirit, and I think this is a great idea. I don't have a wash ready to go yet, but I may go collect some berries this weekend in...

Re: Boka build from the top down

Great build so far! I love the 1/4" shotgun! It really looks great. In regards to takeoff flow control, has anyone tried a 1/4" brass gate valve? With a 3/8 to 1/4 NPT connector? Just curious, since I was considering going this way.

Wow, RTC, that looks great! Very nice work, and I like the somewhat industrial look of it. I really like how the cooling lines are piped, it contributes to the aesthetic. Thanks for sharing!

Sorry about the upside down and sideways pics guys, I've been trying for 2 hours and they just won't right themselves. They're upright on the parent site, I'm not sure what the deal is.

Building a Boka + Pics

I've been a lurker here for a few years, and have recently decided to build a Boka head to use for various projects. I've learned so much from folks who post their builds on here, so I really wanted to share what I'm doing. One of the reasons I decided to build a Boka was because I have a ton of cop...

Hello! You've all been such a great inspiration and source of info for me, from building my first still to all the great recipes. I lurk more that post, but I want to thank everyone for sharing all they've learned with us newbies. I agree with Rum bum, all the knowledge gained and shared here is mor...

Re: easy tri-clamp ferrule sight glasses

Condensificator, Great job on the tri-clamp ferrule sight glasses! This was my plan and I almost thought it was an original idea... You have some great ideas on the manufacture though. My question is this: I'm making a flute out of 3" stainless brewery pipe. Planning on 5 plates and sight glass...

Re: Building a stovetop; pot or reflux?

The main expense is time and heat energy, not the ingredients. I suppose I'm lucky enough that I have the free time. I heat with propane, which is lasting me really well so far, I haven't even put a dent in my supply. It's the grain that's expensive for me. Like I said, with a brewing background I'...

Building a stovetop; pot or reflux?

Hello everyone, I've been lurking here for quite a while and I can't even tell you how much I've learned. It's quite a knowledgeable group here :) A bit of background: I rushed into this hobby and didn't do my research before building my first still. I'm not proud of it, but it is what it is. I buil...
