Re: plum mash

Plum brandy, or rakia as we call it at my place, is my favorite fruit wash. A simple suggestion if I may: If you dont run on pulp, keep the pulp aside and let your first destillate macerate on it for a couple of days before your second run. Then filter and do your second distillation. i noticed it g...

what works really wel for my plum brandy: I do strain the wash before I strip it. After the stripping, I let the distillate macerate on the pulp for a few days. After that I strain it again and distill a 2nd time. I found that this really enhances the aroma of the fruit. This might work for other fr...

I think that's way too much carbon filtering personally. I'm only new to stilling (in fact I only have 1 brew under my belt) but I made a good vodka with 2 carbon filters, good flavour. I have been told anything over 2 filters is just taking the flavour away and 2 is enough to remove the contaminan...

nice topic, let's make this one sticky. For my last slivovitz run, I collected the shine in dark-brown 300ml glass containers. After letting it breathe for the night, I put the hearts in a large ss kettle in order to cut back to app. 42% and mixed some tails back in for taste. Only to find that the ...

thank you all for your replies. Let me clarify a couple things: - my kettle is made of inox (stainless steel) - using a lyne arm, both column and condenser are 100% copper - did 6 runs in total now, all double distillled sugar washes. - I am pretty sure the rubber ring is the problem - the ditillate...

need help with smelly potstill

A few weeks ago I built a simple potstill out of a used 20L inox pressure cooker. It works like a charm, but there is a strange smell in my distillate. I know the pressure cooker has been used for months making pea-soup, and even after cleaning it over and over again, this particular smell still car...

looking for controversial recipy

Hi all, After a few weeks of lurking, reading and learning, I decided to post a request for a recipy. A long time ago, when I was still a student, a friend of mine got his hands on a bottle filled with a lightgreen substance, which he called weedliquor. He told us it was homemade from ´jenever´, a l...
